What are the defining characteristics of 5-MeO-DMT?
Q: |
I have recently acquired 50 mg of 5-MeO-DMT. I got it from a trusted dealer who gets very potent psychedelics and has very good quality. I have yet to have a problem or know anyone who has had a problem with any of his stuff, outside of someone who would have experienced problems regardless of the quality (due to mental set). In any case, I am wondering what the defining characteristics of 5-MeO-DMT are, compared to N,N-DMT--such as color, consistency, or others. Also, I have no way of properly measuring out my dosages, so I plan to make 5 equivalent piles and work from there. Is there any better way to estimate? Also I have no experience with DMT.
Any help would be appreciated. |

One of 5-MeO-DMT's defining qualities is its potency at very low doses. It is 4-6 times more potent than N,N-DMT. We can not stress enough the importance of measuring doses, especially of material that is potent at under 10 mg. How can you be completely certain that the "50 mg" you bought actually is 50 mg without measuring it yourself? If it's not 50 mg to begin with, then that can significantly impact the resulting doses of eyeballed or divided doses, and is another variable to consider. See: The Importance of Measured Doses
If it is absolutely impossible to obtain the use of an accurate scale, and you insist on trying the material without weighing it, the liquid measuring method may be a safer alternative to eyeballing piles of material. Although this method describes weighing the material first, if that is not possible you would be presuming that the starting weight of what you have is actually 50 mg.
With extremely potent substances such as 5-MeO-DMT, particularly when an accurate scale is absent from the equation, it is best to start with an intentionally low dose. Some people have found as little as 3 mg of 5-MeO-DMT to produce powerful effects. Start low and gradually work up. Much better to get light effects than to get negatively overwhelming effects.
Depending on the degree of purification, N,N-DMT can have a distinctive smell (less pure material smells a bit like mothballs, more pure material may smell slightly floral); 5-MeO-DMT usually does not produces such odors.
Both materials are white or slightly off-white if synthetic and pure. However, because of their different legal situations in the United States, at least prior to the imminent scheduling of 5-MeO-DMT, we think that a higher percentage of 5-MeO-DMT that is sold is synthetic rather than extracted from a natural source. Depending on purity, N,N-DMT may range in color (in order from less refined to more pure) from reddish orange, to orange, to yellow orange, to yellow, to beige, to white (as well as white slightly tinted with any of the aforementioned colors). Synthetic 5-MeO-DMT is more commonly white or slightly off-white.
