"Jaguar" is the name given by Ralph Metzner to the pure molecule 5-MeO-DMT. My intention with this article is to assist people in having safe, beautiful, and healing experiences with this amazing medicine. For years, vaporized 5-MeO-DMT has been used as a therapeutic agent by therapists and practitioners, and also as a personal tool for deep meditation and spiritual development. Throughout this document, 5-MeO-DMT titrated mixtures are referred to as "Jaguar" as an honorific to its powerful effects. Jaguar practice may help one develop the capacity to sit without reaction to all that shows up, with non-judgement, acceptance, curiosity, gratitude, and love.

Compared to a pipe and flame, Jaguar vape pens provide a more flexible and interactive delivery method that many therapists have found to be quite effective. Different people have widely different sensitivities to Jaguar. The same dose that delivers a gentle experience to one person may deliver a much stronger experience to another. Jaguar Vape pens allow the client to gently "nibble-up" to find their most effective dose. Jaguar Vape pens are also dramatically more efficient at delivering Jaguar than other methods such as with a pipe and flame. For a given milligram dose, Jaguar vape pens deliver a much stronger experience.

The original method of making Jaguar vape pens used a ratio of grams of Jaguar to mL of vape carrier and used names such as 1:16, 1:8, and 1:4. This labeling has turned out to be confusing to users because of the ambiguity of what the ratio referred to, and the illogical fact that smaller numbers represented a stronger concentration of medicine.

We have alleviated this problem by now making Jaguar vape pens according to the percentage of the Jaguar in the total solution. The percentage number is based on the weight of Jaguar divided by the combined weight of the Jaguar and the carrier. The vape cartridges are now labeled with a percentage, such as 5%, 10%, 20%. This new labeling provides a simple and clear guide to the relative strength of a Jaguar cartridge.

We offer this revised tek in hopes that other makers of Jaguar vape pens will now adopt this more accurate and understandable labeling.

I personally prefer the plant-derived terpene vape carrier known as Entourage. This carrier delivers a smoother, richer and more beautiful experience with the Jaguar. You can also use a wide variety of proprietary blends, some of which contain a blend of polyethylene glycol-based (PEG), propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), or create your own mix using any combination of these three.

This determines the relative potency of your pens, for example, 5%, 10%, or 20%, with each offering a doubling in strength. The chart below compares the percentage names with the old "grams to mL" naming convention.

This is simply how much material you want to mix at this time. For example, 10 grams of solution will make about seventeen 0.5mL cartridges. If you are making fewer cartridges, you can store the remaining solutions in a cool dark place for the next time. If you will be making lots of cartridges, you might choose 20 grams.

Use this simple formula to determine the amount of Jaguar that you will need for your chosen concentration and quantity.

Percentage Concentration × Amount Desired ÷ 100 = Grams of Jaguar Freebase

For example, to make 10 grams of solution for each strength:

Target concentration	Target amount	Grams needed
5%	5 x 10g ÷ 100 =	0.5g Jaguar
10%	10 x 10g ÷ 100 =	1.0g Jaguar
20%	20 x 10g ÷ 100 =	2.0g Jaguar

1. Place a small mixing jar on the scale and tare the scale to read zero.
2. Add Jaguar to the mixing jar until scale reads the amount determined above.


3. Slowly add the Vape Carrier until scale reads your desired total solution weight.
   
4. Cap the jar tightly and give it a swirl to begin mixing the solution.
5. Label the jar with the Percentage of Jaguar.
6. Place the mixing jars on the warming plate and warm until all Jaguar is fully dissolved. Every so often pick up each jar, give it a swirl, and check for undissolved particles.
   
Tips for using the recommended warming plate:
• Use the up and down arrows to set the temperature control to 140°F or 60°C.
• To change temperature units between Fahrenheit and Celsius, press and hold both arrow keys for three seconds.
• To disable the automatic weight sensing feature, turn unit off, then hold all three buttons down for five seconds until you hear three beeps. This is necessary because the small mixing jars weigh much less than a mug of coffee.
7. Once all the Jaguar is dissolved, you are ready to fill some cartridges.

1. Line up a row of empty cartridges in a block of wood or plastic with holes drilled in it, or simply use the foam packaging that came with your carts. Drill the holes large enough for a loose fit, and shallow enough to reveal the glass part of the cartridge.
   
2. Warm one of the mixing jars on the warming plate. Then fill a blunt needle syringe with the warm Jaguar solution, and fill each cartridge to your chosen level. Leave a little headroom to prevent leakage at high altitudes or on airplanes. Filling a cartridge with more or less solution does not change the strength, only the total number of draws before the cartridge runs out.
   
3. Screw on the mouthpieces after you have filled a few carts. The porous atomizer will soak up the warm solution and create a partial vacuum that keeps the Jaguar solution from leaking out of the cartridge.
   
4. Stand new cartridges upright for at least an hour while the Jaguar solution absorbs into the porous atomizers.
   
5. Label the glass part of each cartridge with the Percentage of Jaguar. Wipe the outside of each cartridge with alcohol to make sure the labels stick well or affix your labels before filling.

Charge some batteries and screw on cartridges to make completed vape pens. One nice way of packaging a graduated set of Jaguar vape pens is in a pen case along with a USB charger and a velvet pen pouch for use with a single pen. Be careful not to leave Jaguar vape pens lying around where they might be mistaken for cannabis or other vape pens!
Safety

• Do not use Jaguar in combination with any MAOI mood stabilizer or Ayahuasca.
• Do not use Jaguar standing up or in water in case of temporary unconsciousness.
• Begin gently, with small incremental doses, to allow for your body and mind to acclimate to the experience.
• For one's first experience with Jaguar, a supportive sitter is recommended.

Preparation
Eat lightly, empty your bladder, and wear warm loose-fitting clothing. Prepare a comfortable nest where you can lie down safely. Some people prefer a playlist of soft music without words, others find music distracting.

Technique for Using a Vape Pen
These vape pens are activated by inhaling, with a flow indicator on the bottom.

Rotate the pen 90 degrees so the flat part of the mouthpiece is not against your lips. This helps you to draw in cooling air along with the vapor from the pen.

Exhale fully, then inhale vapor and air into your lungs just strongly enough so the flow indicator lights steadily. Count five seconds, then pull the pen away from your lips and continue to draw in air until your lungs are full. This flushes the Jaguar down into your lungs where it can be absorbed.

Hold the Jaguar in for ten seconds, then exhale slowly and smoothly.

Incremental Dosing
With incremental dosing, a series of short draws from a vape pen allows the Jaguar to build up gently without overwhelm. Start by relaxing and breathing slowly. Bring your mind, heart, and awareness into a calm and quiet state.

Exhale fully, then take a five-second draw on the 5% pen, followed by fresh air to pull it into your lungs. Hold your breath, close your eyes, and lie back.

Hold your breath for about ten seconds, then exhale slowly. Wait several minutes until you feel ready, then take another draw on the same pen.

Exhale fully, then draw five seconds to go a little deeper, or three seconds to stay at the same level. If you wish to accelerate, you can take a longer draw or switch to the next stronger pen. Repeat until you feel complete, each time taking a draw and waiting several minutes until you feel ready for more.

Don't be in a rush to get someplace, or feel pressure to go deeper than you are ready. Incremental dosing allows processing at each level, and many of the most beautiful and healing insights are found at lower levels of Jaguar.

• Freebase Jaguar (5-MeO-DMT)
  The legality of 5-MeO-DMT differs across localities. In the USA it is currently in federal Schedule I. 5-MeO-DMT is sold in both the freebase and salt forms such as HcL and fumarate. Freebase is required for the making of vape pens. The salt forms have a higher melting point and would need to be converted to freebase using the Sodium Carbonate Method. Undergrad chemistry or strong kitchen chemistry skills and equipment are necessary to convert a salt form to freebase 5-MeO-DMT.
• Liquid Carrier: Herbal extract liquidizer or other carrier
  Any vaporizer solution in which the 5-MeO-DMT dissolves completely will work, with the caveat that some solutions might not be viscous enough and could leak out of cartridges. (Examples of suitable carriers: Entourage™ Terpene Carrier or Vapeur Extract™. Note that there are other unrelated vape products named Entourage.)
