1939 | An extract of Tabernanthe manii was sold in tablet form under the name Lambarene (the name of a city in Gabon), for the treatment of fatigue and depression. It contained .2 g extract per tablet, approximately 8 mg of ibogaine. It was popular among athletes who used it as a stimulant and to accelerate red blood cell production.
