DESCRIPTION
"Spice" was a product line sold as a legal herb-based alternative to cannabis that was the first to popularize synthetic cannabinoids deposited on plant material as alternatives to natural cannabis. In 2006, the published ingredient lists contained only herbs and no cannabinoid constituents, which were suspiciously unlikely to produce its reported effects. Numerous organizations tested the material and eventually three chemicals were identified in various Spice products including JWH-018, HU-210, and a homologue of CP-47,497. Since then, other vendors and products have mimicked this model. The products have become increasingly dangerous as of 2015.
