Pharms - Temazepam

In my opinion there is nothing especially remarkable about this benzo. A lot of publicity stems from its epidemic of abuse and addiction in Scotland and other parts of the UK, but from my experience with different benzodiazepines I wouldn't say it is of any particular significance. It's certainly the most popular benzo on the illegal market (here in North Wales at least), but again I can't see why.

According to the equivalency chart, 10mg temazepam is equal to 5mg diazepam. The effect is very much the same as that of diazepam, but takes hold and peaks much faster (20-30min as opposed to 1-2hr for me), and seems both more sedating and slightly less euphoric than diazepam/Valium. Not that I find diazepam particularly euphoric, but there is a sort of relaxed, almost stoned mood-lift there.

With temazepam it's more of a sluggish and fatigued sensation, with some relaxed well-being there but the tiredness seems to dominate everything else. On top of that, it's no more effective at putting me to sleep than diazepam. So apart from the fact that it used to be easy to extract from gel-caps and inject, I really can't see why it was so popular among the junkies, or indeed how it managed to cause so many deaths.

As far as benzos go, I'd say diazepam is far more effective as an anxiolytic. I've never used it recreationally, but I'd imagine it would be more suitable for recreational purposes as well, since in my experience temazepam is far more sedating than anxiolytic. So as a hypnotic it does exactly what it says on the label, but as far as benzos go it's a bit of a disappointment, at least if you're expecting it to be anything like you read in the UK tabloids...
