Here's the synopsis.
Me:
140lb white male. 30 years old. Generally, my reactions to psychoactives are idiosyncratic, so I don't post them. There's not much use if you can't extrapolate from them. For instance, I react badly to cannabis and MDMA, but enjoy bufotenine and salvia. My experience this time seemed representative from the other reports I read, though, so I'm passing it on. I may have had some cross-tolerance due to smoking tryptamines (DMT, NMT, and 5-HO-DMT) over the previous week or two, but it seems unlikely.
Background:
Have used the following once or twice
Positive or neutral experiences with: BZP, BZP+TFMPP, salvia, mescaline, 5-MeO-DMT, DMT, NMT, ketamine, DXM, kratom, ghb, adrafanil, psilocybin, amphetamine, amanita muscaria, lsd, bufotenine, ayahuasca, nitrous oxide, hawaiian baby woodrose extract, ephedrine
Negative experiences with: cannabis, 2c-c, hawaiian baby woodrose whole, MDMA
Method:
Purchased substance labeled as bk-2c-b from a research chemical vendor. 1mg was added to 1mL of water. It was stirred after one minute. After five minutes, no colour change indicative of dimerization occurred. Despite this, I weighed out 110mg on a scale accurate to .001g. Half was encapsulated and swallowed dry. Half was applied directly to tongue. Taste was a little sour and metallic, followed by the sensation of cooling and numbness on my lips and tongue. Had eaten a peanut butter sandwich four hours earlier, as well as bananas and cream and grapefruit juice 2.5 hours earlier. Foolishly did not consider the possibility of the grapefruit juice potentiating the material when calculating dosage. Fortunately, it did not seem to have an impact.
Side effects:
They were minimal to non-existent. I experienced pleasant scalp tingles, mild restless leg (probably would have manifested with surges of euphoria at higher doses), absent libido, fleeting mild headache, fleeting mild sensation of having swallowed a stone (like with bufotenine). The most noticeable side-effects were mild but constant pressure in my chest and mild jaw tension.
Experience:
The first part of the trip was characterized by brain fog and mild visual and cognitive disorientation, the brain fog coming on quickly and perhaps due to hunger rather than the effects of the drug. For the first two to three hours, I kept thinking that I wished that the dose was higher, as the visual effects were on the threshold of becoming apparent, but never really breaking free. Early visual effects were not interesting: borders of objects were outlined faintly, making it difficult for me to focus on them, as though there was very subtle, object-specific scenery slicing. It made the world feel disorganized and blurry. The other visual effects could be produced while stone cold sober if I'd wanted (finding movement in repeating patterns of carpet or crinkly shadows on bedsheets. Closed-eye visuals involving repeated patterns were suggested, but effectively absent. The accompanying psychedelia was not especially interesting during the first few hours, either. I found it hard to keep my attention on anything for long. The drug kept gently pushing my attention inwards, almost sleepily, to a not very interesting mental space. It reminded me of 2c-C in its lack of content or character, and of LSA in its almost sedative character. This surprised me, given the materials beta-ketone functional group. About three hours in, I had a couple cups of hot tea and some bread and cheese, perking up considerably. Still, I decided to test to see if I could nap.
After having a brief experience of having my concept of self observed in several different states, then stretched thin across my mental landscape like saltwater taffy, I decided that napping was not enjoyable. It reminded me of high doses of ketamine or salvia, and I realized then that the recreational potential of bk-2c-b for casual use was probably not that high. A low dose requires active participation on the part of user to make something valuable and enjoyable out of an otherwise neutral space (pharmacological tofu,) whereas taking a higher dose to bring out its unique flavor could sign the user up for a long ride of some serious weirdness. At 110mg, there was a minor but enjoyable enhancement for flavors and music. Color enhancement was pronounced, particularly on LCD screens. The cool tingles on my skin were quite pleasant. The mental space was off-kilter, but nondescript. Music was good, but did not evoke the sensation of journeying. At the four hour mark, I felt like I was genuinely peaking, and became quite content with my decision on this dosage level. I began to sense a bit of the character of bk-2c-b. Color scheme of pastel blues and purples, gold and greens. Objects with shadows or strong contrast popped in the visual field. Gloss on curved surfaces was enhanced. Edges were smoothed in a cartoonish, fimo-ey sort of way. Smiling was easy, thoughts of friends were marked by consideration and care, so there might be some therapeutic potential there. There was no interest in the erotic, but erection and orgasm were easy to achieve. Since the drug was offering little on its own, I spent the next four hours listening to music while reading my sci-fi novel. I have never, ever been able to read while on psychedelics before!
At the eight hour mark, I noted the start of the comedown, which became more pronounced at the nine hour mark. I decided on my usual sobriety test: walking to the supermarket to buy beer. Conclusion: definitely not sober. You'd better believe I went through the self-checkout line. Returning home, things that had felt familiar minutes before felt newly strange. After a couple of beers, I went to bed at the ten hour mark and easily lost consciousness. Five hours later, my partner woke me up when he got up to pee, and I noted that I was not completely down--some closed-eye visuals were still present, and there was still some jaw tension. I wondered if I had actually slept or just powered down; I felt rested, though, so I concluded that I had slept. I fell back asleep and woke two hours later feeling sober, rested, and ready to start the day. The afterglow was present but understated.
Overview:
In general, the experience reminded me of a clear headed low dose of LSD or lysergic acid amides with few visuals and no nasty side effects. It wasn't particularly recreationally interesting at this dose, but I'd be hesitant signing up for a higher recreational dose; it didn't seem like a heavy dose would take me to a particularly psychologically useful or insight-producing place though either. Considering this, I think its malleable qualities could make it useful if it's what one has access to, but it seems to me that there are other, better materials for recreation, therapy, or insight.
