First Experiences With Kanna

I'm not a huge drug user. I smoked for a while (after about a year and a half I switched to using an e-cigarette, which I still use now), and I've smoked pot twice. That's it. Never even been drunk.

I discovered Kanna while searching for legal herbs. I was intrigued by the description of it, so I ended up looking more into it. I'd noticed people on online forums vouching for its positive effects, particularly as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and cure for the winter blues. I've struggled with all of these things, so I figured it would be worth a shot. I found some smokers' cut Kanna for $10 with free shipping, and ordered it almost immediately.

The day it arrived I waited until I had some alone time, measured out roughly 500mg of the herb, and brewed it into tea with a tea ball. I'd heard it tasted terrible, so I added a pack of True Lemon to cover the taste. I let it steep until it was cool enough to drink, which was about 20 minutes, and drank it. About halfway through the mug of tea (I drank it rather slowly), I started to feel relaxed and happy. After I finished it, my arms and my legs in particular felt very pleasant. It felt sort of like a relaxation was emanating from inside my bones. I was smiling a lot, which is rare for me. I felt energetic and sociable. I wouldn't quite say euphoric, but I was in a very good mood. After about 45 minutes the energy faded, and I spent the next hour and a half in a positive mood. After that, when I had come down, I was in a somewhat more negative mood than usual. The appetite suppressant properties were practically non existent, but my appetite was not increased either.

Later that night I decided to attempt to smoke it. I fashioned a pipe out of aluminum foil, put about 200mg into it, leaned out the window and attempted to smoke it. However, due to a combination of nervousness, windiness, and general drug ineptitude, I was only able to get one good hit off it. For about 60 seconds I felt shaky and anxious and jumpy. After that faded, I had some light butterflies in my stomach for about half an hour.

My first substantial experience happened the next day. I was alone in my room again, with a few hours to myself. I was having a particularly bad day due to some drama with my family. I decided to try the Kanna again to see if it would help, this time with some spearmint chewing gum. I started chewing a piece of gum, then put a pinch of about 450mg of dry herb into my mouth. I mixed it with the gum as I chewed it. It had a very unpleasant, bitter taste, so I added a second stick of gum.

After 5 minutes, I started to get butterflies in my stomach, but not much else.

After 10 minutes, I was wondering if I had done something wrong. I still had the butterflies in my stomach, but I hadn't even come across the mild happy feelings I'd had drinking it as tea.

After 20 minutes, I started to look around drug forums to see if I was doing it right and about how long it would take to feel the effects. I took the wad of gum and leaf out of my mouth and started examining it. In about 15 seconds I went from hardly having any effects to feeling completely inebriated. I was grinning wide and trying very hard to stop giggling. I felt dizzy, but in a pleasant way rather than an unpleasant way. It felt similar to a strong marijuana high, but without the confusion. I disposed of the gum and Kanna, and sent a message on Skype to a friend to tell him what happened.

After 25 minutes, the inebriation had cut back greatly and I felt decently stoned. It was similar to a mild pot high, but rather than my mind being fuzzy, my thoughts were still coherent. I turned on some music, which felt very good to listen to and it made me happy. Moving my arms and legs felt amazing. I was messaging my friend on Skype at the time and I compared it to 'the feeling you go when you came back inside from playing in the snow as a kid and got changed into nice warm, dry clothes.' I normally get bored very easily and can't just sit doing nothing, but under the influence of Kanna I was able to just lay in bed enjoying all the sensations of touch and sound.

After about an hour, the effects started to wear off.

After an hour and 15 minutes, I felt mostly sober, but dazed and a little spacey. I was pretty sure the effects had worn off.

After an hour and a half, I experienced a second wave. Once again, it felt similar to a very mild dose of marijuana. But with the second wave I felt especially affectionate. I was cuddling and curling up in my blankets and pillows, wrapping them all around me and giggling and rubbing them all over me. Once again, moving my limbs felt amazingly relaxing. I was constantly squirming, enjoying these sensations all over my body.

After an hour and 50 minutes, the effects wore off for good. I felt drowsy and lazy and a little groggy, as if I had just woken up from a long nap. Unlike the tea, I did not have a comedown of negative emotion. The rest of the day went on with a positive attitude.

This time around I had very much felt the appetite suppressing qualities. I had used the herb on an empty stomach, so throughout the experience I was having occasional hunger pains, but I simply didn't feel like getting up to prepare food. Also throughout the experience I did experience nausea. It was not very strong and I've experienced much worse many times, but the discomfort was still very much there and lasted about half an hour after the other effects have worn off.

Overall it was a very positive, enjoyable experience. I think my primary uses will be tea and chewing, the former to be used for a nice mood boost, and the latter being used for an enjoyable high.
