Set: I’m currently in my early 30’s and have a gratifying job in healthcare. At the time of this experience I was generally in good spirits and well rested. My only medication at this time is trazodone for insomnia.
Setting: At our local arboretum in the Midwest United States in late October. Autumn colors are at their full glory. My partner B will be my fellow voyager.
I measured out a capsule for both myself and my partner B, each containing 12mg 4-Aco-DMT and 200mg methylone (bk-MDMA). This was measured using a carefully calibrated milligram scale.
T+0:00 (8:30am): We arrive to the arboretum around sunrise. Not a cloud in the sky. I ate a small amount of fruit about an hour earlier. We ingest our capsules in the car, then begin our walk. I turn my phone off at this point, so all time marks are merely estimates.
T+0:20: Start feeling first alerts. The sunlight streaking through the yellow and orange leaves becomes increasingly more stunning.
T+0:35: Things are starting to pick up at this point. B states that she’s feeling a little overwhelmed so we sit down on a bench overlooking the park. Five minutes later I catch up with her. CEV’s are starting to blossom and boundaries are becoming fluid.
CEV’s are starting to blossom and boundaries are becoming fluid.
T+0:50: We walk down a flight of stairs to a sunlit grassy knoll and find a perfectly placed rock to sit on. This is when I peaked. With eyes closed I saw incredibly beautiful fractal explosions of clear light in every shade of white, blue, green, and orange. There were some challenging moments when less favorable aspects of my personality would come up for consideration. Fortunately, in the same way the psychedelic side of this combination could open up my mind, the empathogenic component opened up my compassion in a way that allowed me to recognize these parts of myself without letting them pull me into fear or shame. I felt as though I was traveling to progressively higher levels of consciousness until I reached a point of pure ecstatic beauty. I’ve encountered this feeling of oneness a handful of times in the past, most often when communing with psilocybin and its analogues. It’s the closest that I can relate to the metaphor of ‘God.’
At this point I open my eyes to recall my surroundings. The glorious morning sunlight illuminates the fiery fall colors, against a backdrop of deep blue sky. Later, B was to recall that at this point in our trip she was brought to tears of joy by the overwhelming beauty of this moment.
T+2:00: The intensity of the peak has started to quiet so we decide to go explore. For the next couple of hours we wander wooded trails, stopping often to marvel at the variety of plants and to celebrate nature’s final hoorah before bedding down for a long winter. Over this time, the intensity waxes and wanes with an overall downward trend.
T+4:30 (1pm): We have been sitting down near the river, entranced by the winding fluid serpent. At this point B decides that she is close to baseline and feels comfortable taking us home. For the rest of the afternoon I bask in the sunlight of our backyard, painting whatever comes to mind, and listening to one of my favorite podcasts, ‘On Being.’ I finish the day feeling gratitude for such an inspiring and rejuvenating experience. I sleep well and only have the slightest feelings of serotonin depletion the following day. It’s these types of experiences that have led me to revere psychedelics as such valuable spiritual tools. B reported having a similarly positive experience and suggests we do something like this once a month as our ‘church.’ This was by far my most positive psychedelic + entactogen experience, and I plan on revisiting this combination in the future.
