In our search for a 'lighter ecstasy', my girlfriend and I stumbled upon 4-fluoroamphetamine (4-FA). I don't want to try every piece of experimental stuff appearing on the internets; however, this particular one seems to be quite promising in terms of health and safety. In times of writing this, 4-FA is legal in the Netherlands and apparently it is widely used there (survey on this can be found online). Although 4-FA lacks sufficient scientific research in humans, animal models and people experiences provided enough support for me to get and try this drug. Most notably, a study by Fuller et al. (Comparison of 4-chloro-, 4-bromo- and 4-fluoroamphetamine in rats: Drug levels in brain and effects on brain serotonin metabolism) confirms that 4-FA doesn't cause long-lasting serotonin depletion in rats. Thus 4-FA shouldn't cause the classic 'MDMA hangover' periods of time, as well as it should not cause the kind of serotonergic neurotoxicity known from MDMA, or at least not to the extent of MDMA. Still, other mechanisms can be responsible for 4-FA toxicity, so I don't say we can be anyhow sure on this matter. Generally, on-line experiences describe that 4-FA has a shorter 'MDMA-like' phase (couple of hours), followed by a period of dominating amphetamine-like speedeness. This would be somehow expected from a short-acting serotonergic releaser.

My first encounter with 4-FA was a bit difficult, as I dosed 150 mg, aiming at the MDMA-like experience, rather than using it as an amphetamine substitute. The higher dose combined with insufficient food intake during the day caused me an extreme headache some 15 minutes after coming up. This was combined with similarly extreme stomach pain. Ibuprofen kills both of these pains in half an hour and I enjoyed the rest of the experience, the first euphoric phase was significantly dulled, however. In a search for the high, I redosed after some time, which didn't do any harm, besides from keeping me up for some ten hours extra. I was more or less fine the next day, but I felt very tired, both physically and mentally, for another five days. So, yeah, difficult experience, but my fault. I don't have much experience with amphetamines (apart from MDMA), so probably I am quite sensitive on them. The headache I experienced is not completely uncommon in the on-line resources and it seems to be connected to low electrolyte supplies in the body. Never again while I'm hungry.

For our second 4-FA voyage, I suggested to take only 100 mg and redose with some 2C-B, as 2C-B 'after something' is completely different story to 2C-B alone. Bees tend to have the piggyback effect on the previous drug if taken properly (dosage, timing, hunger/too-full stomach scale; sometimes this gets difficult). The 100 mg of 4-FA took some time to come-up (I ate properly 2 hours before the experience for this trial), more than 75 minutes, but it wasn't weak at all. It felt very nicely euphoric, but with enormous sense of reality in it in comparison to MDMA. It wasn't a huge euphoria, but it was more than the speed-induced well-being. It even surpassed the feel-good effects of methylone to me. I wanted to move slowly around the apartment, I enjoyed walking, sitting, stretching, going for a walk to the park, but in a peaceful and calm manner. Meditation wasn't that rewarding as with MDMA, I wanted to talk, talk about stuff, personal stuff, intimate stuff. Talk about concepts, talk about work, talk about people. Talk about issues and solve them all constructively. I love MDMA conversations, but it is often hard to get somewhere with words when the world is too perfect. 4-FA put my fears away, but let the world stay sober.

The 2C-B dosing took time 1 hour in the effects of 4-FA. It was 15 mg (HBr) for me and 13 for my girlfriend. I tend to feel nauseous when coming up on bees, but it didn't occur to me this time.

My gf reported nausea, but it went away in minutes. She also reported to feel a bit sad and empty when coming up and down from the bees. Frankly, I didn't really notice the transition. Sparkles of light in a dark room reminded me that I took a psychedelic when it was up and running. Stuff looked great and I was fine. And I remained fine for the whole course of the combo. The euphoria weakened a bit from the initial hours, but was visiting me in regular waves. World was a tiny bit trippy and my mind wasn't that clear, but all in all, the feeling stayed MDMAesque until the end.

It was a bit sad to see the 2C-B go away after some 4-5 hours. 4-FA was still doing 'something', and I got some cigarettes to ease myself through this period. Tobacco felt good. Similarly did weed, although it wasn't this 'oh god, need to smoke it non-stop!' as I experienced with speed. With 4-FA, the weed was a bit difficult. Felt good, but I needed to stayed with it consciously, I wanted to have a good time, and it worked.

The strange thing happened after some 9 hours after 4-FA consumption. I was quite high at this point and I felt really energetic. The last hours in 4-FA effects gave me an impression of sleep approaching, whereas the hours after 4-FA should have waned, I didn't feel like sleeping at all. Finally I fell into dreamless sleep at time +13 hours. No after-effects the days after, besides being a bit physically drained (but I recall doing some exercising and other crazy stuff that night, so that might be the cause).

Conclusion: yay, 4-FA! 2C-B addition was a success - it extended the best of 4-FA while not adding to much to it. I wouldn't take this combination to serious environments.
