All of these trips happened over an 18 month period in which I was finishing up my Bachelor's degree. A dealer friend of mine became fascinated with psilocybin analogs, and was on a personal quest to see how they compared to the genuine article. Unfortunately, I never really discussed it with him, but I did sample from his stockpile repeatedly. I was (am?) an agnostic with a deep interest in spirituality and world mythology, and a regular yoga practice. The only substance I ever combined with any of these was cannabis.
4-AcO-DMT
Taken twice orally, at about 12 mg each time.
First experience: Taken with one other friend. We took the bus into town and went for a walk. We took the baggie with us, and insufflated a couple more bumps while we were out. So, perhaps another 4 mg insufflated. The experience was not particularly strong (hence the bonus bumps). However, colors looked very strange, in a manner unlike psilocybin and more akin to mescaline. The sky, shortly after sunset, was a deep green. Everything looked vaguely like a painting, an effect that was enhanced by smoking cannabis once we had returned to our dorm. Specifically, the painting Welcoming Daybreak by Maxfield Parrish. My friends looked like beautiful, mythologized versions of themselves, an effect I have noticed on psilocybin as well. The experience was not profound, and, except for the visuals, the cannabis headspace quickly overrode the 4-AcO-DMT headspace.
The second experience was not much to write home about either, but I noticed a profound enhancement of music and audio quality. Listening to music, any music at all, was intoxicating. Very similar to psilocybin in this regard.
So, essentially what I noticed was color-shifting towards the green portion of the spectrum in a manner unique to the substance, and an overall aesthetic enhancement similar to psilocybin. I did not experience a particularly profound headspace at any point.
4-HO-DET
One trial, of a dosage I have completely forgotten by now. Given that it was an almost unheard of RC at the time, I likely hedged conservatively. I remember that the come-up was quick, much like psilocybin. I felt the first alerts in 15 minutes, and peaked around 45 or 60.
The predominant effects were visual, and very symbolic. Not symbolic in that they were meaningful to me, because they were not at all, but symbolic in that they seemed to be emanating from the part of my brain in charge of remembering pictographic symbols. For example, as the drug came on, I looked at a beam of light emanating from my friend's desk lamp and the beam of light took the form of a shower of little skulls, smiley faces, peace signs, and hearts. Adorable. Less adorable was my attempt to walk down a snowy hillside in the night. All the footsteps of the other people who had walked in the snow on the hill transformed into an ocean of broken and misshaped skulls with yawning jaws. Very badass, and surprisingly 3-D. The visuals were dense enough that it was hard for me to walk down the hill without losing my step and falling over. I gave up pretty quickly, and just enjoyed how metal the landscape was.
Despite all the visuals, I was still pretty coordinated and mentally present. Shortly after the hill of skulls, I was able to play the guitar without a problem, and with a great deal of expression. Different from psilocybin, in that playing the guitar is usually too intellectual an exercise for me to manage when shrooming. My sense of humor was present enough that I could crack jokes with my friends, which is also true of psilocybin. I don't remember the exact duration, but I do remember that the trip felt short, esp compared to the others on this list. Maybe two or three hours of full effects at the most. I smoked a little cannabis, but the RC effects were stronger than the cannabis effects.
So, symbolic visuals and high level of motor coordination relative to psilocybin, but a similar verbal acuity to psilocybin.
4-HO-DIPT
Taken with a friend who remained with me for the duration of the trip. We took the same dose, which I don't remember except that it was conservative. The full effects lasted about 4 hours.
Body load was unpleasant. Both of us felt our hips and legs twitching aggressively, and stretching did not seem to alleviate the situation much. Repeated application of cannabis helped a bit.
On the other hand, the mental/emotional state was phenomenal. My tripmate and I spent a couple hours visiting with friends, and socializing in a large group, which is not something we normally do, at least not comfortably. At the time, I often felt social anxiety, but I felt none at all on that evening, and I felt very comfortable introducing myself to new people. Both my tripmate and I noticed a total lack of internal dialogue for the duration of the experience (and, generally, we're both very neurotic and cerebral people, god help us). I have definitely felt similar on psilocybin, although that euphoria is usually compromised a bit by intense mind expansion and visuals. Hard to have a normal conversation when some primordial tree god is singing in your ear. Anyway, I felt a strong afterglow once the effect subsided, and my total lack of anxiety carried on for a good two or three weeks.
So, heavy body load unlike psilocybin, but blissful state of unencumbered buddha mind very much like psilocybin. After glow similar to psilocybin as well.
5-MeO-MIPT
2 trials, one at 6 mg and another at 9 mg. I wrote about these experiences in another report, but I thought I'd include the capsule version here for the sake of comparison. Of the four psilocybin analogs, this one was my favorite by far. It felt the most like a complete psychedelic, where the others felt like they were 1/3 of a more classical psychedelic experience like LSD, mescaline, or proper psilocybin.
Both experiences took place mostly alone and in nature, and both experiences seemed to be catalyzed by smoking a small amount of cannabis at the peak (similar to LSD and 2C-E, where the addition of cannabis seems to synergistically heighten the intensity of the experience at least twofold, if not more).
Unlike the other analogs, 5-MeO-MIPT instilled a profound sense of connection to nature in me, at one point spilling over fully into a brief moment of overwhelming spiritual awe. I experienced intense time dilation (moreso than the other analogs), and tactile enhancement. OEVs had elements of LSD (particularly the hard-edged geometric patterning, esp with fallen leaves and branches, and rushing water) combined with elements of psilocybin (particularly the spiraling organic embellishments radiating off the tree branches). CEVs seemed more LSD-like, more classically geometric than otherworldly five-dimensionally geometric, and not as heavily saturated with color as psilocybin CEVs, and lacking psilocybin's tendency towards archetypal, mythological figures as centerpieces. And, of course, music was downright awesome. Full effects lasted a good four or five hours before tapering off gently.
So, similar to psilocybin in MANY ways. The most significant difference I noticed was the simple three dimensional geometric patterning in the visuals compared to the often impossible and mind-bending trans-dimensional geometry of true psilocybin visuals, and the absence of mythological/archetypal imagery. Otherwise, I felt this substance to be the closest by far to the psilocybin experience, and, given the option, the first of these four I would try again.
