T+0:00— My friend and I each take 50mg of liquid memantine. We swished the dose around in our mouth for 30 seconds before swallowing. We begin watching some Netflix to pass the time.
T+1:00— I to begin feel a light body high, but assume it’s placebo because only one hour had passed.
T+1:30— I feel like I have taken a whippet (nitrous oxide). Very nice, tingly body high. Head feels light. My mood can best be described as silly. Colors are popping a bit. The effects are noticeable enough that I no longer attribute to placebo. I check in with friend– he feels same way.
T+1:45— My friend and I begin walking to the gym. We are giddy. I personally have a little difficulty walking straight and articulating. Less sensitive to the cold, and more appreciative of the aesthetic of my surroundings. We arrive to the gym and commence a very vigorous 2 hour workout. We are both very delighted by how “zoned in” we were. I had lots of energy, and found it easier to distract myself from pain during lifting. During this time, the subjective effects settled into a steady enjoyable high. I can best liken it to the high from a small dose of ketamine, albeit much longer lasting and more clear headed.
T+3:45— As we leave the gym, I begin to feel nauseous. It is worth noting that I was slightly out of shape and went excessively hard at the end of our work-out, so its unclear what's to blame. Nonetheless, we go to a pizza place and I manage to eat chicken parm, despite the discomfort. My friend reports having little to no appetite.
T+4:30— As we leave the pizza place, my nausea suddenly vanishes. We walk home and shower (separately lol). We feel very happy and cozy, but note that we would have been down to party if it were the night for that. I take hydroxyzine (antihistamine with sedative effects) preemptively because I read online that memantine can make it hard to sleep. We spend the rest of the night hanging out.
T+7:30— Around 2:30am we call it a night. Neither of us had difficulty falling asleep (probably due to the hydroxyzine). Upon taking melatonin, I had some light closed eyes visuals.
T+20:00— Had a perfectly fine night of sleep. The next day I feel a bit of an afterglow. My friend agrees. Happy, relaxed, but nothing distracting.
Summary
1. Very good experience.
2. Began feeling it after one hour, effects “matured” by second hour. The high
was steady and lasted until bedtime.
3. My high can be best described as
a. Mildly Disassociative
b. Clear-Headed
c. Giddy
d. Physically Relaxing
e. Long-Lasting
f. Optimally Awake : Not too stimulated to relax but energetic enough to
go out (to a bar, ie).
4. Would definitely do it again, but would ensure that I still have a strong
sleeping-aid available.
