Even Though They Claim It’s Not Addictive

Well my love for stimulants began about 6 years ago after being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, which for those who are unfamiliar is a mood disorder that comes with extreme highs and the worst lows. I was initially prescribed Abilify and Lamictal, pretty standard mood stabilizers. But, I had a very difficult time focusing on easy tasks and was always tired.

I had read an article online about the “smart drug” called Nuvigil. So, at my next psychiatrist visit I told my doctor about my issues and suggested we try Nuvigil. The doctor had no hesitations and wrote out the Nuvigil script.

I picked up the new Med that day and popped one, 150 mg, as soon as I got home. After about an hour, I felt alive for the first time in a long while. All my anxiety disappeared and I had a renewed sense of confidence. I was in love with a drug.

For the next 2 years I began to heavily abuse the Nuvigil and paid the price when I ran out. The crash was intense and almost unbearable. I was already a slim person, about 100 lbs, and lost close to 30 pounds before I quit.

My love affair with this nootropic drug ended fairly abruptly because my husband had enough of the drug abuse and crashes. I was basically given the option to quit or get a divorce. So, I quit cold turkey and never thought I’d deal with that drug again.

Fast forward 6 years, and here I am again. I have been experiencing severe exhaustion and told my general practitioner maybe Nuvigil would help.

I picked up the Nuvigil script and after taking that first tablet, 150 mg, I was in love all over again. I took that first tablet at 1 pm and kept dosing until the next morning. I’m not even sure exactly how much I’ve ingested. I’m guessing close to 500mg. Thankfully I have a script for Klonopin to help alleviate the negative effects.

I know not everyone feels the euphoria that I get from taking Nuvigil.

I write this testimony as a precautionary tale to be careful with prescriptions, even though they claim it’s not addictive.
