DOSE:
T+ 0:00
25 mg oral 4-HO-EPT
T+ 2:15   repeated inhaled Nitrous Oxide
  T+ 3:30   repeated oral Alcohol - Beer/Wine
BODY WEIGHT: 140 lb
The following is an experience report which details my first (as well as my partner’s first) experience taking 4-HO-EPT. Having tried other 4-substituted tryptamines including 4-HO-MPT, 4-HO-MiPT, and 4-AcO-MiPT, I was looking forward to adding this substance to my 4-sub repertoire. We both went into the experience on regrettably full stomachs, but with no tolerance or cross-tolerance concerns. In light of these two considerations being more or less equal for both of us, what was bizarre was that our reactions to the same dosage were worlds apart. She enjoyed a full-blown and desirable trip, while I experienced only threshold effects.

T+0:00 - My partner and I each swallow a 25mg oral dose of 4-HO-EPT. Unfortunately, we do this on a moderately full stomach. Of course, it goes without saying that one had ought to try to avoid this when consuming substances like this, especially 4-substituted tryptamines.

T+0:20 - I help my partner straighten up around her apartment while we wait with excitement for the effects to set in. We turn on multicolored lights throughout her apartment, and queue up some electronic music. So far there are no noticeable effects.

T+1:10 - After consulting with my partner, we agree that we’ve both begun to notice some very marginal onset effects, including heightened awareness, heightened physical sensitivity, and an accompanying body high (albeit very slight). We figure that the delay can be attributed to our recent meal.

T+1:20 - With very little to show for our trip so far, we each decide, independently of one another, to go for a walk. My partner leaves first, with the intention of walking roughly half of a mile to a nearby convenience store. In fact, tensions between us are high due to an earlier disagreement (which does not prove to be very relevant to how the experience itself plays out, and so I will not go into any greater detail). Suffice it to say, we each need some time alone. While she leaves to go on her walk, I stay glued to the sofa listening to music. By this point I am feeling as though the effects I had noticed earlier seem to have more or less subsided. At the very least, I’ve become so acclimated to these merely threshold physical effects that I am no longer noticing anything abnormal.

T+1:40 - Deciding that it would be best to work things out and remain in each others’ company for the duration of the trip, I leave the apartment and head to the store where I expect to find her. At this point in all of my previous 4-substituted tryptamine experiences, I always found myself getting quite a lot of enjoyment out of a stroll. But by this point, as I have said, I am experiencing virtually no effects: certainly no visual effects. Therefore, I expedite matters by driving to the store to meet up with her.

T+2:05 - Having picked her up and having succeeded in working out our earlier disagreement, we return to the apartment with a six pack for later. She is now reporting steadily increasing effects including a respectable body high, increased tactile sensations, and neat visuals. I still feel virtually nothing.

T+2:15 - There is no masking my disappointment. “This is a psychedelic emergency!” I think to myself. What ought one to do in a psychedelic emergency such as this? Of course, the answer is to bust out the nitrous. For the next 30 minutes or so we take turns inhaling a couple of balloons each (The Glitch Mob’s 2018 See Without Eyes album is excellent accompaniment). My partner’s open and closed eye visuals are exacerbated just as one would expect. She experiences sheer euphoria. I too am euphoric, but truth be told I am only getting the sort of effects one would expect from taking nitrous on its own. My plan to turn my trip up a notch is dashed.
My plan to turn my trip up a notch is dashed.

T+2:45 - With the nitrous chapter behind us, we find ourselves back where we started: sitting on the couch, listening to music and chatting. We remain as such for some time. It is at this point clear that my partner is having what she would consider to be a full-blown trip. In the spirit of keeping this report strictly within the purview of my own subjective experience, the only perspective that I can accurately give, I will not deign to speak on her behalf as regards what her particular range of effects involved beyond that which I have said already.

T+3:30 - My partner sips on a beer, I drink several, and we begin watching a movie.

T+4:00 - The alcohol, to some minor degree, seems to be potentiating what had up until this point been very meager 4-HO-EPT effects. Finally, over four hours after taking the capsule I enjoy noticeable color enhancements, slight pattern distortion, and the floor-to-wall-to-ceiling “breathing” that is so characteristic of tryptamines. These visuals apply both to the room I am in and to the film we are watching. I have virtually no physical effects other than restlessness: a sort of nervous energy. In terms of mental effects, it could not be smoother.

T+5:15 - Following that initial psychedelic rush (which was neat, but all things considered, still pretty lackluster) that proceeded from the addition of alcohol into the mix, I have actually not noticed any increase in effects throughout the duration of the movie. I have had an enjoyable night, but not due to the drug. Because I have to go to work in the morning, I decide to cut my losses by taking a sleeping pill. Feeling as though she is coming down, and herself needing to wake up for work the next day, she decides to do the same.

T+5:45 - Despite some meager closed eye visuals at first, I ultimately have no difficulty sleeping. She, on the other hand, has a great deal of difficulty falling asleep. As it turns out, in the morning she reports having had dreams that, despite being vivid in detail, were nightmarish in content. I would not be too quick to attribute that to the drug, since there are so many other variables at play.

In summary, a cursory go with 4-HO-EPT has convinced me that the proper dosage is much higher than the 25mg we took. After consulting with a friend who has a great deal of experience with this drug, I figure that a more appropriate dose would be closer to 35mg, which is what I plan to aim for next time. That being said, those who find that they are more susceptible to psychedelics could experience a full range of effects from a mere 25mg, as was the case with my partner. Of course, it goes without saying that one had ought to consider waiting at least a few hours after eating before taking substances like this. I am convinced that my failure to do so had a lot to do with my decreased effects. I remain hopeful that this drug has some potential when taken in higher doses, but I will not rush to revisit it anytime soon.
