DOSE:
10-20 mg oral Pharms - Temazepam (pill / tablet)
BODY WEIGHT: 140 lb
My first encounter with Temazepam was back in 2009. A friendly doc wrote me a script for me to deal with jetlag. I never used it for that but found it very useful to get my sleep/wake cycle back on track once in a while. Modern urban people seem to have a pretty chaotic sleep schedule, periodically having to get up very early or stay up until late on short notice just because things come their way. I think it messes up sleep quality in the long run. So I would take one 10mg Temazepam pill when I felt it was time, shortly before going to bed. A 25-pill bottle lasted me 2 years, averaging to a pill per month. Each time I would get a very decent uninterrupted night sleep. My sleep would be ‘denser’ and I would wake up completely refreshed and perfectly able to run for another month.

However, the last pill was different. I had a bit of social drinking one night and had an important errand to run early next morning. So I had a very early start next morning and was back home by 9am. Having nothing else going on for the day, I figured I could try taking the last pill and have a bit of daytime nap on the sofa to get refreshed. That worked wonderfully and I woke up at around noon feeling very calm and at complete peace with the world. (Not implying I have much conflict with it normally.) That glowing state really stuck in my mind but I never tried to renew the script.

Fast forward 9 years. I found a nice source of pharma-grade Temazepam and decided to see if it still worked for me the same way. Of course, with more supply at hand, I did my best to go easy in order to avoid the dreaded benzo addiction. I am still able to get a pretty nice night sleep from one 10mg pill, if not as nice and memorable as 9 years before. (I used to laugh at a local night club’s slogan saying that the nights we spent having a sound sleep aren’t the ones we remember forever.) I find it particularly useful the next night after a night of heavier social drinking, if I get a bit of hangover and feel anxious and unable to fall asleep easily in the evening. I don’t do this more than a couple of times per month. However, I have had a stretch or two of more frequent before-sleep use, roughly 4 or 5 nights in a week including upping the dose to 20mg (no heavy drinking the night before was involved). Each time I just stopped on my own because I would start getting excessively vivid dreams connected to events of my prior life. That didn’t feel like good sleep at all. I guess my brain would keep running in high gear in sleep instead of calming down for some reason.

I have also tried taking 10mg Temazepam once or twice after an early start when I had nothing else left for the day but, alas, I have never got that glowing at-peace-with-the-world state again and stopped chasing it for good. Now I think some of our experiences with psychoactives are particularly valuable because they are unique and irreproducible. Carefully and responsibly looking for new ones should be a better use of our time and body’s resources.
