I've learned that pairing lotus with other things helps to potentiate it. I've tried the method of soaking it in wine or ingesting with a shot of liquor, and alcohol works reasonably as a potentiator. However, I've had better luck coupling it with cannabis in past. Lotus "visions" aren't anywhere near as vivid as, say, mushrooms and they tend to be very short in duration, but I can vouch for the reality of aporphine as a hallucinogen.
Dagga I typically smoke, either as a joint or in pipe. It is, as often described, similar to a mild cannabis high but definitely somewhat different. I get the slight hazy, high feeling of cannabis, but it's also milder and more "absent-minded" feeling. What's crucial to note though is that it seems I have to smoke the flowers, not the leafy material, to get this effect. Not only do the psychoactive properties seem to be confined to flowers, smoke from leaves is overly bitter and unpleasant.
I'm a semi-regular coffee drinker. I feel enough people know what coffee feels like to avoid a lengthy description of this. My current brew is organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe fair trade coffee. It's a shade grown arabica and I tend to brew it on the strong side.
Tonight I decided to find out if dagga would potentiate lotus like I've found cannabis to. I added coffee because I wanted coffee, but kind of regret this decision as I'm now not positive which substance acted to potentiate the lotus.

I've had a bit of experience with all of these plants in past, but it's been a while since I've done dagga or lotus.
Timeline:
0 min: Packed a bowl of lotus and smoked it. Followed with a bowl of dagga flower.
5 min: Waiting for set in - maybe a slight tingle from the dagga? Packed a second bowl of dagga and made coffee. Could start to feel the onset of the dagga - a slightly hazy feeling, somewhat heavy-headed as though my temples were filled with weights above my eyes.
10 min: Coffee ready - just a few sips taken slowly. Smoked 1/3 of dagga in bowl.
15 min: Half of coffee drunk. Can really feel the dagga now. Wandered around kitchen looking for something - don't know what.
20 min: Calmness, but with a certain level of restlessness - a feeling like there was something I needed to do but didn't have the energy to do it. Drank most of rest of coffee. Smoked 1/3 of remaining daga. A few mild visual hallucinations: brightly colored blobs that flash into and out of existence for fractions of a second (this is about on par with the intensity and duration of visions I've come to expect from lotus).
25 min: A moment of slight queasiness that passed quickly, feelings of listlessness and confusion. Finished coffee.
30 min: Restlessness, things feel calm when I feel they shouldn't be. Finished dagga.
35 min: A few more trails and blobs that blink out of existence as quickly as they appear.
40 min: Visuals seem to have died off. Still feeling hazy from the dagga and stimulated from the coffee.
45 min: Lingering haze and coffee stimulation.
50 min: Haze mostly gone. Coffee really starting to kick in proper.
55 min: Dagga worn off, just coffee pep.
60 min: Stopped monitoring experience. Coffee buzz remains.
...
3 h: A lingering tingle of caffeine.
So it seems to have worked - I did get visuals. I'll be curious to play more with this and see what just coffee or just dagga does.
