I'm writing this as a warning to anyone that might think they can eyeball an appropriate dose of Clonazolam powder. It's EXTREMELY dangerous to ingest raw powder of ANY drug, let alone one that is active in the microgram range. I am lucky to have survived (not an exaggeration).

Prior to this incident, I had been using Alprazolam (aka Xanax) in raw powder form intermittently for several years without incident. However, I was hired at a job that required routine and random drug testing, which forced me to either get a legitimate prescription or change benzos to one that wouldn't show up on a drug test. A quick internet search suggested that Clonazolam (aka Clonitrazolam) might not show up on some tests. My experience with Xanax powder made me cocky

, and I decided to procure Clonazolam powder. The plan was to take a tiny amount and drug test myself to see if it was detectable or not.

After reading that Clonazolam is approximately 2 to 4 times more potent than Xanax, I took (what I thought to be) an extremely small amount of powder. I used a small sewing needle and scooped up a tiny amount of powder on the tip, approximately the size of a grain of sand.

[Erowid Note: Two samples of powder (even of the same chemical) with equivalent volumes won't necessarily weigh the same. For this reason, eyeballing is an inaccurate and potentially dangerous method of measuring, particularly for substances that are active in very small amounts. See this article on The Importance of Measured Doses.]
Despite my tolerance to benzos, I passed out before I could even feel the effects. One moment I'm on my couch with my girlfriend, then the next thing I know, I'm in my bed and it's tomorrow. I lost about 18 hours of my life just like that. Poof. Gone. My girlfriend said that I was acting totally normal before I randomly said in a very serious tone "I have to sleep" and promptly fell asleep. This occurred about 1-hour post-ingestion. Apparently, I got up and moved myself to the bedroom at some point.

This should have scared me, but I believe that there were lingering effects that caused me to not take it as seriously as I should have. I was planning on going to my friend's house that night for his birthday party. For some reason, I decided to try taking Clonazolam once again but swore I'd be even more careful with the amount of powder. Using the same method, I took approximately half of the previous day's dose.

Before I go on, please do NOT drive after taking this (or any other) benzo. I could have killed myself or worse - I could have killed others.

Shortly after ingesting the powder, I began driving to my friend's house, which was 30 minutes outside the city. This time, the effects of the powder hit me like a ton of bricks (thankfully I didn't simply pass out while driving). The first thing I noticed was terribly blurry/double vision. No matter how hard I tried to focus on an object, it was not possible to get my eyes to work together. I was only able to stay on the road (which was thankfully desolate) by closing one eye.

Realizing how much danger I was putting myself and others in, I decided to make the rest of the journey on a gravel road at an extremely slow speed. I still managed to get stuck in the ditch. I called my buddy and told him the situation, and he said he would be there in about an hour (I had inadvertently overshot my destination). So I sat there waiting and lo' and behold, I see my greatest fear appear on the horizon: the headlights of a cop car.

I tried my hardest to hold my composure and keep it together. I was able to speak coherently and without slurring, but when I walked, my balance was clearly off. The officer (who was a consummate professional, by the way) asked me if I had been drinking or anything, which I denied. I explained that my poor balance was due to a combination of extreme sleep deprivation and the fact that yesterday had been leg day at the gym (terrible half-ass excuses, I know).

I remember feeling very conversational and was joking around with the officer quite a bit. But above all else, I was extremely respectful and polite, and I think that this is what saved me in the end.

I consented to a breathalyzer, knowing it would show zeros. He then asked me if he could search my car, and in my fucked up state of mind, I couldn't remember if there was anything illegal in my car or not. The only response I could muster was "Ummmmmmmm...." before the officer gave me an out by saying to me "You can just say 'No', it's fine." I jumped on the opportunity before he could change his mind, and said "In that case: No. I really don't want to waste your time. Or mine for that matter." (In hindsight, it really would have been a waste of everyone's time, since I didn't have anything illegal on me).

The officer then asked if I would consent to a field sobriety test. Once again, the only thing I could think to say was "Ummmmm....." And once again, the officer gave me an out! I couldn't believe my ears when he said "You don't have to if you don't want to. I know it's cold outside." (This was in northern Minnesota, mid-winter, in the dark of night). I thanked him for his thoughtfulness, and he said "Since your car is technically blocking this road, I have to wait here until your friend comes."

After quite some time, he asks "Do you mind if I check your eyes? We can do that inside the car." Even though I could have declined, I wanted to appear as cooperative as possible so I decided to try my luck, knowing that he'd be looking for pinpoint pupils and/or nystagmus (which is when your eyes make jerking motions as they follow a moving object instead of the normal smooth gliding motion). I passed this test, which was good enough for him.

My friend showed up at the same time a 2nd cop showed up. The first cop goes to talk to my friend who - by the grace of God - told the officer the exact same story I told him: that I was sleep deprived due to insomnia and just started working out again. These things were both true, but I still couldn't believe it when I heard what he said to the cop, since we hadn't had a chance to get our stories straight. It was pure luck.

While my friend was talking to Cop 1, I sat in the car with Cop 2, who happened to be a very attractive female in my age range. My significantly increased libido combined with decreased inhibitions caused me to do one of the stupidest things you can do to an officer: I started flirting with her. However, I got lucky - she was not only receptive to it, and actually reciprocated in flirting (e.g. playing with her hair, asking to see my muscles). Looking back, I have no doubt that this was due to my confidence being through the roof. Despite the gravity of the situation (I could have easily still received a DWI if this cop wasn't as kind as the first cop), I was able to act aloof and pretend like it was just bad luck that I got stuck in the snow.

Sadly this didn't end with us hooking up like you'd read in Hustler or something. My friend simply pulled me out of the ditch and the cops wished us a safe ride home.

In the end, I learned that no matter how experienced you think you are, ingesting raw powder is a very bad idea. However, the drug effects were quite pleasant - especially the increased confidence. The main downside was extremely poor balance and double vision. If you have access to a reliable, known dosage (such as pills or liquid of a known concentration), then I would say that this was the most euphoric benzo I've ever tried.

Oh and it did not show up on the drug test.

[Erowid Note: Driving while intoxicated, tripping, or extremely sleep deprived is dangerous and irresponsible because it endangers other people. Don't do it!]
