Although I have used Zolpidem many times for both its hypnotic and hallucinogenic properties, it has always been either oral, intranasal (tartrate hurts, would not recommend) and sublingual (tartrate tastes like salty lemon mixed with soil, terrible experience), this is the first time I used it intravenously. I knew the properties of the drug very well and had clear expectations - immediate action and stronger effects.

After carefully checking the ingredients of the oral drops solution sold in Italy, I obtained a bottle. The concentration was 10 mg/ml of liquid, containing zolpidem tartrate salt, together with sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment, citric acid as an antimicrobial agent and sodium benzoate as a preservative, all of which are fairly safe and not very damaging to the vein endothelium. This renders the oral drops solution relatively safe for intravenous administration.

After thinking about the dosage, I opted for 30 mg (3 ml). This for me is a solid dosage, which should have pronounced effects without being way too dangerous (I sometimes took more than 100 mg, not advisable). I used a regular 5 ml syringe with a 30-gauge needle for safer intravenous administration. After drawing up the desired amount, I prepared my vein (I chose left median cubital vein in the antecubital fossa for easy access) by cleaning it with 70% ethanol solution, then by applying the tourniquet and cleaning the area once again for safety. I pierced the vein, had a drawback flash, released the tourniquet and started injecting the liquid slowly.

After injecting 5 mg, I could already feel something coming. Dizziness and lightheadedness were the main effects. As I continued injecting, 10 mg was an already pleasant experience. By the time I injected 20 mg (around 20 s) I was already very dizzy and coordinating my limbs was more difficult. I tried to inject the rest more quickly, but since the needle was narrow, quickly injecting was painful. I completed the injection and removed the needle, placed a cotton ball over the spot and enjoyed the experience.

I was listening to a playlist I made for pleasant hallucinations, with mostly chill trippy music. My image was drifting, I could see objects slowly moving. Internal imagery was vivid, together with external visuals becoming more and more interesting. Classic zolpidem hallucinations.

From this point onwards, I don’t remember anything since I have severe anterograde amnesia, consistent with recreational zolpidem dosages. However, I know that I ate ketchup and mustard with bread (plain, terrible combinations) by the remnants that I found in the morning. I have no memory of texting some friends, yet I was capable of constructing sentences and giving the impression of sobriety. I also found evidence that I wrote some things and listened to different music for a long time.

In the morning, after around 8h of sleep, I woke up rested and completely sober. I could remember what I had done, but I had a complete blackout from the point mentioned. Then, my favourite part came: finding out what I don’t remember!

Although it was a very pleasant experience, especially as the sedation and dizziness kick in seconds after the injection, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The person tripping should be safe, knowledgeable and experienced with zolpidem at least. Also, it is imperative that the tripper has knowledge on intravenous injections, and has a solution safe for injection. This was not my first intravenous injection nor was it the first time I took zolpidem, so I knew what to do, how to do it and what to expect.

I sometimes did unpredictable stuff on zolpidem and was lucky to have someone to take care of me. Also, I tried compulsively redosing many times which I don’t remember at all - this could have been dangerous.
