Tianeptine Is Weird

I've gotten my hands on some tianeptine sulfate and tianeptine sodium this last month. There is quite a difference between the two in terms of the acute side effects. This is about my experience with tianeptine sodium. Also, I am specifically referencing my experiences using this chemical recreationally and not as a nootropic/anti-depressant.

I purchased the substance at an online research chemicals supplier who has been around for several years and does testing. I haven’t asked for the test results of this particular batch of this substance.

I have just mild tolerance to opiates since I take kratom (~6-8 grams) a couple times per week - which I have taken just once since my first 50mg dose of tia about 2 weeks ago. With this 140mg dose, I was certainly feeling the typical effects of an opiate high, like with percocets or hydromorphone but even stronger. And also weirder, I guess because of the anti-depressant effects.

Just for some context, I've taken this substance a few times. Probably about 3-4 times over the last 1-2 weeks. With a dose around 50mg I can feel some mild effects. I've taken a 50mg dose, a 80mg, and a 120 mg in the past couple weeks. This experience report talks about a 140 mg dose.

The peak of the high itself does last maybe 1-2 hours, but the after effects are pretty strong and last for several hours. Maybe it’s to do with serotonin or something, I have no idea. But I definitely did not feel sober for at least 8 hours from dosing.
I definitely did not feel sober for at least 8 hours from dosing.
I took the dose at 7 pm, and I felt cognitively impaired (in a bad way) and very tired even at like 5 pm the next day. It’s messed up and it’s why I say this is a weird alternative to your typical opiates like oxycodone. I can be productive on oxycodone, go to sleep happily, and wake up the next day sober. Not with this. Cannabis definitely intensifies this “afterglow”, even though it’s more like tiredness and brain fog. It is not exactly unpleasant but I feel really lazy and unable to think properly. If I need to work and be productive the next day then dosing the previous night will probably mess me up. I smoked some cannabis about 4-5 hours after dosing the tianeptine and it threw me straight back into a fairly intense high, and then I fell asleep just to wake up feeling the same high but a bit milder.

The next day, I had the after effects as described above. I tried to counteract these next-day effects with dextroamphetamine and it barely helped, there was still effects of the tianeptine lingering in the background even with my typical dose of dexedrine. It’s kind of like a dissociation with the present moment, and like my brain just doesn’t want to think.

Anyways, the high itself is great. I took the 140mg dose two days ago and today I still feel pretty weird. To be clear, I have never gone through an opiate withdrawal and I don’t think I am going through one but I do think there is somewhat of a mild withdrawal happening even though I have kept my doses low and spread out. Some weird effects I have that make me suspicious of this chemical is intense restlessness, like I need to be moving my body. My body just feels uncomfortable in its own skin. And I am very irritable. In general this week, my sleep has been disturbed. I can’t sleep for more than 5 hours at a time for a couple nights in a row after a ~80-150mg dose, regardless of how tired I am.

It seems like this chemical does a lot of things in my brain/body that something like oxycodone doesn't do, and those other effects make it more annoying of an option compared to kratom, and especially more annoying compared to oxycodone. It does seem more addicting, particularly because of the after effects. Feeling weird in my own body, irritable and getting angry easily all tempt me into taking another dose so I can diminish the effects. I don't have an addictive personality, and have no problem maintaining a stash of an opiate like oxycodone for a while. But with tianeptine, I am actually considering flushing the rest of my stash right now. Well.. right after I take another dose of course.
