During 2015, I began to over-use my meds and was constantly running out of my script early. I began to research methods of staving-off the impending doom (withdrawals). I did a lot of research and I found several recipes for poppy pod tea. I chose one that suited me best. I found several suppliers of dried poppy pods. I selected one that was affordable and local. I ordered organic papaver somniferum poppy pods and I made certain that these pods were not sprayed with any chemicals. My order arrived within days. Just in time as I had taken the last of my Vicodin.
I took two large pods; I removed the cap with sterilized scissors. I then poured the seeds from the pod and saved them for later use. I broke apart the pod with my hands, into small pieces (as small as I could). I placed about one-half of the broken pods into a coffee grinder. I ground the pods with the hand-coffee grinder, as I shook the grinder, until the pods were a fine consistency. I then did the same with the other one-half of the pods.
I then got a small pan and filled it with water. I added a little lemon juice to help with extraction of "the good stuff". I brought the water to a simmer, not a boil. I added all of the ground pods to the simmering water. I steeped for about thirty minutes. I then used a strainer, and poured the poppy pod slew over the strainer and into another container.
I poured the strained poppy pod tea into a cup. I drank about one-half cup slowly. The taste was indiscernible. The tea was bitter, so I added a little honey. Now I had a sweetened bitter tasting tea. I was not too worried about that. I was more concerned with the effects.
Within about ten-minutes, I began to get "the opiate itches". I was happily scratching my arms, feeling a bit buzzed. Within about twenty-minutes to one-half hour, I was standing in the window, gazing outside at a cow pasture, behind my home. I felt the warmth of the sun on my skin, I felt glowy and happy. I slowly drank the rest of my tea and I went out on my covered deck, with my two dogs. I lit up a cigarette and enjoyed the view. I felt slightly nauseous, but it was not anything that I was worried about. I drank some cola and this helped with the slight sickness.
The warm, glowy high lasted for a long time. I would say that I was feeling it at least six or seven hours, before I dosed again.
For me, it was a very enjoyable experience. I have drunk poppy pod tea on many occasions.
The only problem I found was that if you are an addict, it is hard to carry the tea, and consume it without others noticing. Yes, when out of pain meds, I have had to travel with the tea. In addition, that is a different story.
