Poopy Tea Hey?

Firstly I would like to point out that I am not formally educated in ethnobotany or pharmacology or anything in this sort of subject matter, I am simply a 21 one year old student who was perhaps wise or moronic (depending on your perception of things) enough to try this out. All I'm trying to say is I wouldn't try it without fully knowing what I’m about to do to myself, fully.

I'll start by giving you a quick insight into some of my past experiences with opiates which solely includes codeine, the first time I tried this was with two Panadeine Fortes which I had obtained previously for a bothersome wisdom tooth but didn't take. Up until now I had tried a fair few things but no opiates. Well I took two of them unbeknownst at the time that I had an ulcerated stomach and ended up in agonizing pain for the next three hours because the pills aggravated my ulcers. So a few months had passed and with the all clear I decided to give it another go, I read somewhere on the internet that with a simple water extraction method (thanks to the poor solubility of paracetamol compared to codeine in room temp water) you could ingest a good amount, so I thought to myself what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Anyway I extracted approximately 280mg of codeine and consumed it, but obtained no effect really, not even any real analgesia or drowsiness. Even after I smoked a few bowls. I had read somewhere that 10% of white people are missing the essential enzyme which metabolises codeine into morphine which is in fact codeine's main mode action. So I was slightly disappointed.

A few months later I read about the psychoactivity of poppy seed tea online – huh. Once again cursed by curiosity I thought why not. It is smack bang right in the middle of my exams, I'm a little stressed out but generally in good spirits so today I did some shopping and bought two packs of poppy seeds of 275gm each which cost me $6.98Aus and a 250ml bottle of lemon juice for $1.16Aus, what do you know, it's cheap too. I put the poppy seeds into a container with all the lemon juice and a bit of water so I would cover it all and just let it soak for about 2 hours while I tended to more important things. Once that was done I strained out the lemon juice through an unused t-shirt and drank it in one swift gulp, it really didn't taste that bad just extra bitter lemon juice, but bitter foods don't bother me and anyway a bitter substance usually is a good sign.

At this stage I was at home with a mate and we weren't really aiming to do much which was good because I'm pretty flat broke financially at the moment. After about an hour I started to feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside and luckily no sign of the nausea the opiates can bring. My mate was stoned at the time and was suffering from a bad case of the munchies so we decided to go to a fast-food restaurant. We waited for another one of our friends and then left. When I got in the car which was about an hour after ingestion I noticed that the music sounded good; not so much that my perception of sound had changed but more that listening to music just felt good, but then again so did everything, and my sight had a surreal feel to it. I had finally reached that elusive opiate euphoria. It wasn't greatly pronounced perhaps mid-level just subtle but it was definitely there.

By this time my mind started to wander occasionally leading towards lucid day dreaming and a healthy amount of drug-induced analysis of things, this was a little deceiving for I reached happy conclusions and solutions to all my thoughts which is great but being a pessimist I can't help but think that my thoughts were somehow clouded by the false sense of tranquillity that opiates bring to the party. Apart from this I noticed I became very social and empathetic and understanding towards others but at the same time I was being brutally honest, kind of paradoxical huh. I'd also like to add there was definitely an aphrodisiac effect too.

Anyway I bought myself a tea and by about the 2 hour mark my friends and I decided to go smoke some joints when we got to our destination I had noticed that now my balance had been compromised and my euphoria had fleeted just a litte so I decided the best thing to do is to proceed to share a joint with my friend. After about 20 minutes I was pretty stoned not so much opiate stoned more THC stoned but the euphoria built up again. I like smoking cannabis because it has great imagination-enhancing qualities, all the psychological aspects are still running smooth only my imagination now is a little more inspired.

Here I am now 5 and 1/2 hours later and I'm still getting residue affects. This really is enjoyable stuff, there are some doubts at whether such an experience is possible with seeds of the poppy, let me tell you this was no placebo effect, it was there, because along with all the positive effects that is aboveformentioned came classic opiate side effects. At about the 4 hour mark I developed a slight itching but it was easily got ridden of by simply not thinking about it as well as some slight pressure in my head, don't let this deter you though for both were negligible and the pros definitely outweighed the cons. Just the same I'd still rather smoke a few bowls. In its defence though it is cheap and has great anxiolytic effects, in my experience it is definitely a better option if you're planning to do something active with yourself because it has slight stimulant activity and left me looking in a better state than what cannabis would have. All in all definitely a good experience and worth repeating in the future.

I hope this has been both informative and entertaining and remember if your going to use any substances remember to do them responsibly. Use don't abuse.

Stay open-minded and healthy all, C-YA!
