But it has been my quantifiable experiments with pure mescaline hydrochloride that have really convinced me that there is something different with my neurochemical makeup that renders mescaline impotent. I started off with doses of 150 mg just to be cautious, hoping to have a relaxing lazy afternoon in the park. After several hours, I was wondering if I had mistakenly weighed out baking powder instead of mescaline. Not to be discouraged, I tried again several weeks later, increasing the dose to 350 mg still wary that the dose-response curve would be a steep one, but again, nothing except a little pupilary dilation which made my eyes light sensitive and the beginnings of a grumbling stomach. Next, I tried 750 mg, pissed off that I was wasting so much of this compound, but determined to get high on it, even if it took me the whole bottle. Again, virtually no CNS effects except except an unpleasant head throb, but the body load was really kicking in and making it difficult to focus on the few mental effects there were. Definitely no colors, eidetic imagery or sense of 'connectedness,' I just wanted to take an aspirin and go to sleep. I gave it one more try, this time at 1 g (1000 mg), figuring that if a gram didn't cause so much as a tracer or two in my vision I was willing to call it a failure.
Since my failed attempts to get to know mescaline, I have talked with several other people with access to confirmed pure synthetic mescaline, who experienced the same disappointment in their virtual lack of response to it. II suppose we're doomed to never know what everybody else sees in mescaline. Just as well if you ask me, as I'm perfectly happy with all the other marvelous drugs that actually do something for me.
