I have been taking klonopin as a prescroption for acute social anxiety and agoraphobia for about 10 years, I have been through periods where I have not had a prescription and therefore was not on the drug- but I have been on it more than off of it for a decade. I have Acute Social Phobia, and was started on a .25mg daily dose initially (about 10 years ago). My current prescribed dose is 4mg a day, if that gives you any indication of how your body definitely develops a resistance to the drug.

I can say that without any doubt klonopin has helped me to function normally in social and work settings. It takes away the acute 'Are they looking at me?' paranoia of social anxiety and leaves me feeling (at its prescribed dose) I guess as 'normal' as possible. I have taken it generally along with other prescribed psych medications- most currently Wellbutrin SR and Paxil CR. I also have a script for breakthrough anxiety of 1mg xanax, and scripts for Ambien as well as Restoril for sleep. I guess you could say I am kind of queen of the benzos. For the prescribed purpose of reducing my anxiety the klonopin works like a charm.

Coming off of it, either intentionally or by accident is not a lot of fun and doing it under a doctor's supervision if I have been taking it for any period of time at all is best. Benzo withdrawl is NOT a pleasant experience. This report is mainly to let anyone out there who has anxiety similar to mine (teeth chattering, heart racing, blushing, a very strong fight or flight reflex) that this is a benzo that doctors will likely recommend before they put you on the other benzos such as Valium, Xanax, Ativan, etc. The reason for this is that while it can take about 30 minutes to an hour for the pill(taken orally) to start working- it has the longest acting effect out of all of the benzos, and is supposedly harder to abuse. Insofar as its intended use for Social Anxiety it has helped me to the point where I could meet new people at parties, be talkative, function at job interviews, etc. etc. I truly consider this drug to be a life saver for me personally. I will discuss this in other reports in greater detail. Like I said though- I found it curious that there were no reports on klonopin on this site and having used it for so long I can definitely provide a lot of information about this drug, used alone as intended, used alone for recreational purposes, used with other pharms, etc. etc. But I have no idea how I would function socially at all without my prescribed dose of klonopin, I would likely be housebound. This drug used properly has allowed me to live a fairly normal existence , and there is a lot to be said for that.
