I went home this past Christmas to visit my parents and friends. They live in Boston, I live in San Francisco -- so I only get to see them once or twice a year. My girlfriend came back with me, too. They had never met her, so it was kind of a big deal. I had gotten hold of a bottle of 2-mg Xanax bars. From the little that I had read, I thought it'd be a fun little pill to pop here and there while enjoying my hard-earned vacation.

Big mistake. I basically blacked out for an entire week. I don't know what happened exactly, but I don't have any recollection from December 22 to December 29. Not a single memory. I don't even remember waking up. Apparently I was a huge jerk to people, saying stupid things and pissing people off. And I slept a lot, too. My girlfriend was so upset with me. She basically had to spend an entire week with my parents, who were freaked out that I was in such a state.

I don't remember if I felt good or bad or what. People said I looked like a zombie. I came out of it slowly, and I experienced a lot of unpleasant hallucinations over the next couple of weeks. What was supposed to be a happy trip home turned out to be a sad occasion, and I scared a lot of people and almost lost my girlfriend.
