DOSE:
  inhaled Nitrous Oxide (gas)
BODY WEIGHT: 140 lb
About 15 years ago I went to a dentist's office for a routine filling. While on nitrous I heard the usual dentist sounds (I swear, they must all go to the same dentist school) 'doing okay? everything alright' blah blah... I was breathing the nitrous deeply - so I remember the room going a bit 'tunnel vision' and the sounds go 'reverb'. Someone else has described it well --'you you you you doin doin doin doing okay okay okay okay?' I heard something on the TV - sounded like a few notes 'da da da' like going up a scale in band class... tooth was done - didn't think anything more about it.

Move ahead 10 years... another dentist - getting veneers put on - same deep breaths (love the nitrous!) and his voice and words start sounding like the previous dentist. Now - mind you - I was conscious after the first dentist and I remembered key things I heard that very day... so this wasn't like I was remembering it for the first time. I knew I had experienced some of this before. Okay - it was weird, but not enough to get me concerned about anything.

Now - move ahead 1 year. I was in another dentist's office getting my veneers redone (yep - ouch). It was early in the morning - one of those morning shows was on. The nitrous was flowing... feeling good - starting to get that familiar 'reverb' sound... not quite enough that I don't know what's on TV or being said... then I hear it... I knew there was a marching band on the morning show - getting ready to play something for us... there it was - the warm-up sound... I kid you not - it was the exact same sound I had heard 11 years ago... I know bands sound the same right? well - what are the odds it was the exact same sound - with the exact same 'are you doing okay'
it was the exact same sound - with the exact same 'are you doing okay'
blah blah blah... It hit me like a brick... I'm sure some of the gas wore off right then and there because I felt consciously aware that what I had just experience - I had actually caught a glimpse of (or vice versa) 11 years ago... I left that morning and told my husband what had happened...of course he thought I was crazy...

So now... lastly... skip ahead 4 more years -- to about 2 months ago. Yet, another dentist, more nitrous - getting a filling done that will be very close to a nerve. Decide to have them play 'The Princess Bride' on the DVD player... of course - this was out 1 year ago --- fitting right? Well - no 'warm up' sounds from the band this time - but some things the dentist said and what I did hear from the TV had me thinking this was yet another part of what I heard 15 years ago. Key phrases (which I can't place for some reason) took me directly back to that first experience on nitrous. I was in shock. It happened again - I sat there wondering what this all meant.

I thought of a movie called 'Down the Rabbit Hole'. I thought time had no meaning --- that we had everything stored in our brains and we just can't access it. After reading of a similar thing happening I realize maybe we aren't supposed to access it - maybe it is all too much.

What if some meteor slams into the earth causing a shift in gas levels and the air becomes 40% N2O? Will we all be in this enlightened state? Is that the big, instant evolution?

Okay - back to the report at hand... I thought I was all alone in this --- and I've found others with the same 'deja vu'-like experiences on the drug.

I wish I knew what it all meant.
