During 1992 a wonder drug hit the rave scene in the UK, MDA. This arrived in the form of snowballs, a small white pill in which you cold clearly see the large crystals of MDA. The drug was being sold as ecstacy and most people did not know it was MDA for a long time into the run of these products. Like others I heard the rumours that the material was coming from Eastern European labs.

The drug has elements of ecstacy about it, but is different in effect in a few key ways:

Ecstacy (MDMA) is more of a mellow experience with waves of rush followed by some mellow moments over the course of approx 8 hours of experience from a good strong pill (dose must be >120mg), and the symptoms of taking MDMA are very reliably the same. The drug takes about 1 hour to make a good impact.

MDA has the potential to invoke a couple of different experiences on the user. First and my favorite is the unbelievable rush come up hit where you feel like you're on a rush from the start to the come down approx 4 hours later. This is associated with a lot of dancing and uncontrollable joy. The hit starts in about 25-30 mins after dropping and is undoubtedly the best experience I've ever had on drugs. The second is unfortunate and is described by many. The trippy hit. This effect seems to be fairly prevalent and leads to strange activities in those affected. Examples from mates I saw doing this include - me saying to Greggor meet me over there in about 10 mins to get in the car to go home, G replied with how much meat???? People also had a tendency to take more pills as they thought they were not getting a hit (because they were not feeling like they were coming up). Feelings were described as being gouchy, or smacking out. This to me seemed to be a description of a rather lame time, particularly as you could just as easily have the incredible high from the same drug.

Anyway, in summary, I would definitely do this drug again if it was a guarantee that it was the right thing as it was a great experience for me and a lot of others I used to know.
