When I was 13 or so, I was diagnosed with ADHD. I personally think it was a crock of *%#$ even to this day. I was just a lazy kid. ANYWAY, immediately I was placed on a regiment of Ritalin. They were blue 10mg tablets.

At first, the prescription was for 30 pills. I was taking them as prescribed and apparently there was a remarkable difference in my behavior and study habits at school. The teachers informed my parents of this and thus my parents informed the doctor. He wrote a prescription to dispense 300 pills at a time.

Now I dont know how this happened but somehow my mother let me control the bottle. I kept it in my room. One day for no reason (hey we were 14 and bored) I convinced a few of my friends to take 4 pills orally each (40mg). Not even aware this was a powerful drug, it turned us into philosophers. We had the deepest conversation about anything from fishing to astrophysics and the meaning of life. A few of us seemed to like this more than the others.

Three of us started taking these pills orally, even stealing a few bottles found in other people's medicine cabinets. Nobody knew about Ritalin being a strong drug so parents left it in bathroom medicine cabinets. My parents had no idea, nor did many other parents.

Not knowing how it happened but one day we just started snorting pills. It was fantastic. We would have 'sleepovers' (according to my parents) but really, it was just a few of us snorting ritalin all night. We would stay up literally for days on end, snorting ritalin with no end in sight.

The medication was 'not enough' so my doctor decided to double the dosage I was taking. Obviously this fueled my addiction even further.

Looking back now, we we're probably snorting 100mg each a day and upwards of 500 mg each during a 'BINGE' , with little rest in between. This addiction took over my life. I lost many friends, my personality started changing, I stopped caring about almost everything except the drug.

This went on for 2 years, and I became severely depressed, angry all the time for no reason, antisocial and severely poor academically. Finally I stopped because they doctor decided (after 2 years) that the drug was not working in my case.

I just wonder if this caused any long term damage to me, i assume it did. Looking back now it was disgusting what I was doing and hope to never get that way with any other substance. The 'Miracle Drug' for children ruined part of my childhood and possibly has damaged me for the rest of my life. Beware the Kiddy-Speed
