DOSE:
5 seeds insufflated Anadenanthera peregrina (ground / crushed)
BODY WEIGHT: 210 lb
Overview: This was my first time taking yopo (Anadenanthera peregrina). I have done synthetic and semi-synthetic tryptamines including DMT and 5-MeO-DMT but never bufotenin. I took five seeds and definitely consider it a success; for about 50 minutes I was in an extremely altered state which made it hard to think in a normal manner or move. There were also visuals, but not as intense as I had expected.

Preparation: The key to success with yopo appears to be the preparation.
The key to success with yopo appears to be the preparation.
Reports of people mixing the seeds with baking soda seem to have mixed reports and two individuals I know tried snorting the seeds after grinding them (shell and all) and were left with intense pain which overwhelmed any psychoactivity that may have occurred.

Step 1: I put the seeds on a frying pan with the heat on high. In 4-7 minutes they should begin to “inflate”. Two of the five seeds I used cracked while on the pan. I took these off immediately after I saw the exposed flesh but made the mistake of waiting for the others to pop. After about fifteen minutes I took them off and found the flesh completely burned and was unable to separate the flesh from the shell. I trashed these and put three others on, removed them after five minutes and easily peeled the shell away. Discarded the shells afterwards.

Step 2: Since I do not have a mortar and pestle I substituted by putting them into a soup bowl and grinding them with the handle of a knife sharpener which seemed to work well enough.

Step 3: Added slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) to the ground yopo. The lime to yopo ratio I used was about 1:3 eyeballed. After I had taken them a foul taste remained in my mouth which I believe was the lime; I would use less.

Step 4: Added water to make the mixture turn into sludge. There should be enough water to keep all of the mixture together but not so much that when lightly squeezed water comes out. After I added the water I rolled the mixture around so that the lime and yopo can react with each other.

Step 5: Waited. Let it dry. I put it next to a window and turned on the fan and it dried in about an hour. After that I let it rest for another five hours because I had things to do around the house. This did not seem to diminish the potency.

Consumption and Experience: I divided the yopo concoction into six manageable lines that sat on a CD case. Then, with my trusty snorting straw, I railed the first three lines through the right nostril and the last three through the left. Each line was taken quickly and I only paused to breathe between lines. Breathing moved some of the yopo so after I took the six lines I quickly gathered up the rest and snorted the small line through my right nostril.

T + 5 seconds: The first of the yopo lines makes it down my throat but some gets caught on my tongue. The stuff is gross and tastes like the slaked lime.

T + 30 seconds: It feels like someone stuffed insulation or something in my nose. I can feel my whole face expanding. Fortunately this doesn’t hurt that much as I had worried. I begin to walk around in confusion; my eyes are teary but not too irritated. I grab a coke and try to wash the taste out.

T + 00:01?: I sit down in a daze. I begin to feel nausea and then lie down. From here on out I lose track of time and will list events in chronological order.

I puke into the toilet. I stay at the toilet for what seems like several minutes expecting to throw up again. I notice how the barf swirls in the toilet and it reminds me of the ink blots they use during psychoanalysis.

I walk out of the bathroom and sit down and sip on the coke. The puke washed some of the yopo/lime taste out of my mouth which I appreciate. I still feel like I might get sick again and I lie down.

I reach the plateau. For what seems like eternity I lie there with my hand on my head. Most of my thoughts center on trying to describe how I feel. I am the infant 1.5. I can think in words but for many feelings I simply do not have the words to describe them. When my eyes are open everything seems to be covered in some sort of an oily texture. Red spirals go across my vision diagonally. The light on the thermostat reminds me of a firefly and the coat rack of a hand. I am, however, able to realize that the coat rack is not a hand and the light is not a firefly.

After lying in the same position for quite some time I begin to move. This next period in the trip consists of me thinking similarly to before but waving my hands and shaking my legs in rhythmic motions. Everything feels heavy.
Everything feels heavy.

Finally I am able to get up from the bed. I piss and look at the clock; 12:41, I took the yopo around 12:00. I am able to walk to my room which is up two flights of stairs. I collapse in my bed and for the next twenty minutes am able to think complete thoughts, but they are quite random.

By 1:20 (T + 1:20) I am completely back at normal.
