A Blue Lotus Overview

I am a 21-year old English student, writing about an overview of the last two years 'living with lotus'.

During my final year at university, I was having problems sleeping (probably due to a fairly hedonistic lifestyle!), and while trawling online, I found information about the intoxicating lotus. After a brief stint on the internet I made a bulk purchase of 75 grams, followed the following year by another 100g purchase. It was a totally new drug for me to try, and I assumed that the effects would be negligible (as I have found with many 'legal highs').

The first night I came to try it, my housemate and I (B - female) decided to make a 25gram brew with the leaves and stalks. We mixed up a moderate amount of water with the plant matter, and left it to brew for an hour to an hour and a half, while we occasionally smoked some joints and had a few beers. Finally, we strained the liquid and drank it in front of the television. The taste was not as bad as I'd expected - quite refreshingly floral and not too bitter (which I'd experienced when brewing the Leaf of God two nights previously!) After an hour, the change was subtle but definitely present - my body felt more heavy and lethargic, and I was surprisingly giggly considering that I felt mentally sober. B was enjoying it also, claiming to feel very calm and at peace. The effects may have lasted approximately another hour or so, before trailing away nicely.

After this, I figured the plant could be used in tandem with other drugs as a facilitator. After a difficult experience with LSD, a 20g brew with B facilitated my comedown superbly; allowing me to slip nicely into sleep and back into a semi-sober mind state. I found the tea also works nicely coming down from stimulant drugs, such as MDMA, or any phenyls.

As a sleep aid, the tea works superbly alongside benzodiazepines, such as Xanax and Valium, boosting the effects and lightening one’s mood. After a strong brew, I find myself sleeping better, and my dreaming is more vivid and I find it easier to remember.

It is also highly enjoyable to drink alongside anything alcoholic, again acting more as an exaggerator than an individual drug.

Finally, I have smoked the leaves on many separate occasions, often when marijuana supplies or low, or merely as a replacement for tobacco. Again, the leaves are not unpleasant to smoke, giving off a nicely soft scent and not being too harsh on the back of the throat. The effects are fairly negligible, however have been known to eliminate some of the greater feelings of worry I occasionally have when smoking bud.

In conclusion, large packages of the white / blue lotus did not survive very long in my house! Though not an overwhelming drug, it acts very nicely alongside other drugs, whether stimulants, hallucinogens or depressants. This is not a plant which will ‘mess me up’, and understandably people have reported little effect from taking it. However, if the dose is sufficient, it can be very subtle and highly comforting. Only negative experiences occurred when taking the drug alongside the Leaf of God - this played merry hell on my sleep and dream cycle. Furthermore, when taken successively (for me, I noticed it after four days and four strong teas) I can notice a slight skin irritation or itchiness - something which can be avoided by regular breaks in between use.
