I was a little nervous because I'd never tried Azurs before and I'd read that the potency is typically 3X that of cubensis, so this translated to 3/4 Oz of cubensis, which is 1/2 oz more than I'd ever taken before. Nevertheless, I decided I wanted a night to remember. I started out with 1/8th ounce, as I always do, and settled down to watch Alice in Wonderland. I figured that because of the psychedelic nature of the film, along with the brightly contrasting colors, I would be able to realize quite quickly when my trip was starting.
After about a half an hour, I started to get a very strong body high, but still no visuals. After a while, I had a thought. It hadn't occurred to me that the rapidly moving pictures in front of me didn't have a chance to morph and transform. I've noticed that things usually change visually if they are stationary rather than moving. I had been watching it on my laptop with the light turned off, so I turned on my light and looked up. When I realized my coat that was hanging up on the wall began to drip down onto the floor, I took the hint and downed the other 1/8th.
I left my house on foot, wheeling my bike beside me. As I walked down my gravel driveway, I looked down, only to see the gravel crawling around as if alive. I got on my bike and started down the driveway. A very trippy bike ride later, I ended up at a field. (I'm skipping some of the more minor effects that I find to be generic and unimportant). I laid down in the field and looked up at the stars. This is an activity that I highly highly recommend. While lying on my back, I realized that usually when I look at the sky I see the stars as a flat surface, a sheet, if you will, but when I looked up at the stars I saw them not as equidistant from me, but as actual stars, very far away. I was seeing the stars in a 3 dimensional plane.
After pondering life for a while and watching the sky convolute and swirl, I opened my backpack and scattered its assorted articles around me on the grass. I had a small round mirror, (my personal favorite), a rubber duck, a spoon, pen and paper, and a number of other personal effects that have special meaning for me. I looked at each of them in turn, pondering their significance and origin. This is another idea that I strongly encourage, bringing small trinkets or toys along. You never know what you'll be in the mood for! The last thing I took out was my pipe and some high quality herb that I'd been saving for the occasion. This is where things got really weird. I was already peaking on the shrooms, so I decided to amplify the experience by smoking a few bowls. I found that the mushrooms seemed to cause me the inability to feel the smoke in my lungs, so I was able to smoke very easily (This is a recurring thing for me).
After I finished smoking, things started to get REALLY weird. I mean REALLY weird. This was the first time I experienced anything like it. After struggling in vain to pack up my pipe and weed, (it was double bagged and wrapped in a hankercheif), I finally managed to get it put away. I put it in the box, put it in my backpack, and stood up, only to realize I was yet again sitting on the ground, with everything disassembled in front of me. This happened anywhere between 2 and 100 times. I really have no idea. Everything beyond this point defies definition. I stood up and looked around. I realized (closest word in the english language for acquiring knowledge at this point) that not only did I have no idea where I was, I had no idea who I was or what to do. I had completely lost the ability to call upon past knowledge or make decisions. I was LOST in a field by a road I have lived on for upwards of 17 years. I came to know that I wanted to explore. I really didn't care where. So I started out by trying to find the road, but despite the fact that I was 10 feet from the road, could see part of it, and could see the power poles on the side of it, I still had no idea where it was. It was very weird. I wasn't even sure really what a road was, or who I was, for that matter. I am convinced that my subconscious was on autopilot, and I was just observing. I don't really remember making conscious decisions. Things just happened to me.
I don't really remember making conscious decisions. Things just happened to me.
I had the strong urge to hum, so I got in a loop of singing the same notes over and over again. Anything else didn't sound right and the silence was borderline painful. I didn't even want to listen to music with my ipod, I just wanted to hum those notes over and over. Like I said earlier, I was having trouble recalling knowledge. This is a good example of that. As I walked along, this became apparent because as I heard a car approach, I couldn't for the life of me remember which side of the road cars drove on. Both seemed equally valid as options, so I just walked off the road entirely and waited in the ditch until the car had passed. After a very long walk on the road and on some of the side roads, I (SOMEHOW) found my driveway again. Since I had walked past my house, I knew I had to remember which direction my house was in or risk getting lost, so I had a general rule of uphill=away from my house, and downhill=towards my house. (I live out of town on a hill.) I soon realized, however, that his was a horrible method of figuring out which way to go because the ground was moving so much I couldn't tell which was uphill and which was down. At any rate, I guessed a direction, was fortunately right, and somehow ended up at my house. Even as I walked up my driveway again I wasn't sure whose driveway I was on or where I was going, but I still knew somewhere in the back of my mind that I should keep going on it. Once I got to my house, I became very indecisive. I pet my cat for some time, contemplating the bizarre habit of humans to tame animals and keep them as pets, when we ourselves are animals. Anyway, I settled on walking in a circle around my house, but the entire time I was muttering under my breath random things in a British accent. It seemed to help, although I have no idea what exactly it helped with. I did this for anywhere between 10 minutes and 2 hours, although I have no idea as time had become irrelevant. As I felt myself coming down, I went back inside to my room and rode out the rest of the trip listening to music and waiting for sleep.
What I learned on this shroom trip was that I had never had a shroom trip before. I'd had some pretty intense experiences, I'd had some very cool visuals, but never anything like this. The most bizarre part was re-living events and having time lapses. I am a little glad this was confined to my time spent in the field, because it was a little too weird for me. Azurs mean business!
