I was prescribed Concerta 36mg and Ritalin 10mg after beeing diagnosed with ADD. Looking back, I don't think the diagnosis was right. I used them orally for a while, but sometimes wanted to have the effects faster, so I started snorting the Ritalin pills. At some point I got annoyed by the amount of gunk left in my nose, so I decided to try to extract the pure methylphenidate.

I found some guides on the net, so I then used a brake antifreeze that was 97% isopropyl alcohol and 2% 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethanol aka diethylene glycol monoethyl ether. I crushed the pills, soaked them in the antifreeze, and filtered the gunk out. I was left with antifreeze that contained most of the Methylphenidate in the pills. About 2000 mg was contained in the pills if I remember correctly. I tried to evaporate the alcohol, but some oily gunk refused to evaporate (I waited for 24-48 hours or so), so I thought I'd evaporate it by mixing it with water and heating in a pot over a stove. This is when I accidentally inhaled some of the fumes coming from the pot (I smelled the fumes). I felt a tremendous rush. I immediately felt very heavy if as my cheeks weighted a pound each. My body felt extremely heavy. The rush overwhelmed me and I started panicking, that I had overdosed. I called the poisoning hot-line trying to inquire them about inhaling the chemicals that were in the antifreeze, but didn't tell them about the methylphenidate. The feeling lasted for a good hour or so. All this time I was quite convinced that I will die. The depth of the panic seemed to oscillate. Sometimes I could pull myself together (not feeling that heavy and OD'd), but then I had a strong sense that I needed to concentrate in order to keep breathing and keep my hard beating.

After I came down I swore never to do Ritalin again, but today (after months in between) I tried snorting a little again. I crushed half of a 10 mg pill, and made a line that was max. 1/5 of that, so that would be 1mg or less. I immediately felt the same panic from the rush. This time it lasted a little shorter, and was not that intense.

I have had almost a similar panic onset from smoking pot after the inhale incident.

As a conclusion, I don't know what I have done to my brain, but I'm ready to make a conclusion, that I have become oversensitive to some psychostimulants (I did a little coke last week without any similar effects, but some sativa I smoked caused similar although milder panic feeling.) I'm quite sad really, because it seems I'm now more prone to have a similar panic attack with any psychoactive stimulants. I'm not sure if I'm ready to do mushrooms after this, which is a pity, since I was really looking forward to it.
