Recently, I ran out of amitriptyline and was without it for about a week. During that week, the anxiety and depression came back. Mostly, it was the anxiety. I was hungry most of the time, but for some reason, I simply could not convince myself that eating would be good for me. I would almost say that it was nausea devoid of actual vomiting.
Finally, I was able to get a new prescription filled for amitriptyline. No more than two hours passed after taking my first dose before I could eat again. My sleep became more satisfying after I started it the med again.
My depression has not completely been eliminated by the amitriptyline, but I have noticed a significant difference not only in improvement of depression symptoms but primarily a decrease in the degree and frequency of anxiety.
Having taken Zoloft and Prozac in the past, I can say that SSRI antidepressants make me feel like shit. My hands sweat and my stomach just feels nasty. Amitriptyline, on the other hand, might make me sleepy on certain occasions, but I sleep better and I don't feel edgy all of the time.
