I Was Short of Breath
Quetiapine
Citation:   syrossoul. "I Was Short of Breath: An Experience with Quetiapine (exp81598)". Erowid.org. Apr 22, 2020. erowid.org/exp/81598

DOSE:
400 - 1200 mg oral Pharms - Quetiapine
BODY WEIGHT: 145 lb
Seroquel / Quetiapine administered for my: panic attacks, O.C.D, insomnia.

Safe Quetiapine dosage: it is debateable, several sites proclaim different amounts.

Initial, subsequent administration: started on 400mg – 200mg upon waking, 200mg before sleep. Decreased to 300mg per day – 150mg upon waking, 150mg before sleep… currently – 400mg daily.

Personal Quetiapine benefits: an effective sedative property that can oppress panic attacks, if taken before sleep - will perhaps provide a ‘deeper’ state of sleep, and will render me unconscious within 30-60 minutes.

Personal Quetiapine side effects: can cause somnolence, hang over/ groggy feeling upon waking, and, depending on how much administered can cause depression of the cardiac system, causing shortness of breath/ dizziness.

Personal experience: upon initially taking Quetiapine I was pleased with the effects – my sleep improved, my general mood was more stable, and my O.C.D was less prevalent.

Personal Quetiapine overdose amount and reason: I had, uninstructed, increased my dosage over the period of a few days from 400mg to 1200mg, an increase of around 200mg per day. Reason: recreational curiosity/ to induce a deep sedated state.

Personal Quetiapine overdose amount and effect: 1200mg was taken in a single instance before sleep: Initial bodily response was one of extreme sedation/ possibly unconsciousness. Upon awaking, after 12 hours undisturbed sleep, breathing was extremely forced
Upon awaking, after 12 hours undisturbed sleep, breathing was extremely forced
– extra efforts were taken to inhale and exhale, and although the heart rate was not monitored I ‘would guess’ that I was experiencing extreme palpitations of around 150- 160 heart BPM. Within 1 hour of waking, and walking about semi-conscious I collapsed, due to blackout and extreme respiratory depression. Upon coming round, around 1 hour after the black out, I was short of breath but my heart rate was noticeably more stable at a lower BPM, although I had no apparatus to confirm this.

Conclusion: Quetiapine is an effective, useful drug, if administered and taken within safe guidelines. IMO it is certainly unsuitable for recreational purposes.
