Codeine Experience - Monday, 4 January 2010

This is my first experience with Codeine. I was taking Coldagin Forte (Another name for Panadine Forte.) and it was a failure. The reason, I believe was because the medecine had expired. It was expired by a year and three monthes. I studied the affect of expiration on medecines online and generally most agreed that it should not affect it too much, and at most a small loss of potency should be expected, but I felt little to nothing. I do not have much experience with painkillers but I am aware of changes in my body and know I felt nothing more then slight dizzyyness. However I did feel itching, particularly at the hour and half mark. This subsided at around two hours.

I conclude that expired Codeine, at least past a year is no good for recreational purposes. Here is my report

Dose

For those who do not know, Paracetamol is a very light painkiller and does not affect mood in any way.

Time: 0:00 - 3 x Capsule shaped Tablets (30mg Codeine, 500mg Paracetamol)

Time: 0:20 - 1 X (30mg Codeine, 500mg Paracetamol)

Time: 1:25 - 2 X (30mg Codeine, 500mg Paracetamol)

Time: 2:05 - 2 X 30mg Codeine, 500mg Paracetamol)

Total: 240mg Codeine

10:05 PM - No affect. Very slight tension in muscles around throat and neck. Most likely unrelated.

10:15 PM - Slight slowing down in visuals and motion when looking around the room, possible placebo. Taking another Forte. Feeling a little warm, turning on the fan.

10:25 PM - Same as before, slight relaxation and possible numbness but likely to be placebo.

10:28 PM - All of a sudden feeling a lot more peaceful and relaxed. Slight tension in muscles under right side of my jaw/towards the throat. After dwelling on it for a few seconds I thought it might be a reaction to an allergy and started to feel anxiety and stress, immediately calmed myself, although tension in muscle persisted..

10:40 PM - Thought I would be feeling the affects greater at this point. Went to urinate as I'd heard Codeine makes it difficult afterwards. Fetched a glass of water, on the way to the kitchen I felt a tiny bit spacey and maybe a little lighter, Noticing itching around my body. Particularly now as im writing this. Around my head, my legs. Nothing at all unbearable or particularly annoying. Just small itches.

10:55 PM - An hour in. Same as before. Getting slightly annoyed at the lack of affects, especially for my weight, zero tolerance, and exceeding erowids reccomended begginer dose.

11:05 PM Started to think maybe the pills were expired, and I was correct. The pills were set to expire October 11th 2008. The date is 4 January 2010. Very disapointed.

11:20 PM After some research about whether expired medecine is still affective, deciding to take two more.

11:55 PM A little tired. A littlte spacey. Beyond that, not much.

12:01 AM Took one more

1:00 AM Nothing. Slight pain in gut.

In total, I had taken 240mg of Codeine, at 50kg. After consulting friends and the internet the consensus was that the expiration date is negligble and shouldn't be something to worry about, but I am STRONGLY convinced that the codeine had lost most if not all its potency.

I felt itching around my body, but I would consider this experience a failure, but will not deter me from trying again with non-expired materials.
