I've been to the edge of the universe and back with several substances over the years, especially DXM, and I figured it was time to try yopo. In the months before this experience, I attempted ayahuasca brews, HBWoodrose, and amanitas, and I didn't get anywhere.

When I got home from work one night, I roasted ten seeds in a pan till they swelled and cracked on medium-low heat. I tried my best to peel them and separate the nut meats from the flakey shell. I then ground the meats in my mortar and pestle and added a smaller than pea sized amount of edible lime to the powder that I bought from an indian grocery store. I also added a pinch of baking soda and two drops of water.

I kneaded this mixture into a doughy ball for about five min. It was about the size of a marble. I flattened it into a pancake and placed it on top of a mason jar lid, which was the only chunk of metal I could find. I held a lighter under it for a few seconds and it dried extremely fast. It was like hardened play-dough. I ground it in my mortar again and lined it up in two lines, one for each nostril.

Nothing could have prepared me for the pain. I used a piece of a straw to snort it. I got 3/4 of each line into each nostril as I fell to my knees groaning and writhing in the most terrible pain. Even after reading other's reports I truly misunderstood how much this would hurt. I've snorted everything under the sun and felt varying degrees of what I thought was serious discomfort, but nothing compared to this. However it only lasted about 15 seconds.

I also wasn't prepared for how intense of a trip it was. Two minutes after the pain I felt like I was blacking out. I was fighting to stay conscious. On top of that I had to concentrate on breathing. I breathed very deep and slow and I felt like if I didn't think about it I just wouldn't happen. I ran to the toilet to puke and dry heaved and just collapsed in front of the toilet. This is where I remained for another hour.

The visuals began as I was dry heaving. They were intense cliché psychedelic blue green and yellow lava lamp colors everywhere. If I stared at something for a few seconds it began to stretch and warp, namely the toilet. As I stared into the toilet lid, the visuals got deeper. I was scared to close my eyes. I heard confused whispers everywhere that sounded like my mom telling me what not to look at or how not to sit. I remained nauseous the entire time, though I didn’t want to puke because I knew it wouldn’t make me feel better. I finally looked to the left of my toilet into the blue wall and saw what looked like a map of blood vessels with tiny cars driving through them. This eventually came out of the wall and floated in a block of electric ice near my head. During this time I was communicating with the snorted seeds inside me, begging them not to make me puke and to take the blacking out feeling away.

The closed eye visuals were more than I could take, so I avoided them. The first few times I held my eyes closed it was as if there were lightspeed image TV’s behind my eyelids. It was too much. After sitting and drooling on myself for about 20 min, the effects lessened enough for me to enjoy them. The extreme CEV’s turned into a high speed tunnel trip I was too scared to take, though I felt something may be at the end of it. I didn’t move from my sitting position in front of the toilet for an hour. I was finally able to stand an hour later and I felt 100 feet tall. I gradually came down and experienced an incredible after glow.

The strange thing about this trip is the fear. I’ve never felt fear on any trip. It physically sucked as well, but the things I saw were totally worth it. I wasn’t prepared because so many reports made it seem like not much would happen. I’m definitely going to try again.
