DOSE:
3 g oral Syrian Rue (capsule)
11 g oral Mimosa tenuiflora (tea)
BODY WEIGHT: 145 lb
Background: I’ve taken Calea zacatechichi half a dozen times (which I found effective most of the time), Hawaiian baby woodrose (which did nothing, good or bad), Morning glory (which kind of did a little bit but mainly just tasted awful), and Salvia (effective but too random for me). I was initially very scared of Ayahuasca because it seemed like some kind of super drug with almost dangerous effects. After having hit-and-miss experience with other entheogens, I wanted something more potent and Ayahuasca fit the bill.

Preparation: The night before the journey, I prepared the Syrian Rue. Having heard how terrible it tastes (and having flashbacks to the awful taste of Morning glory seeds), I ground it up fine in a coffee grinder, then put the dust in a shallow container, barely covered it with lemon juice, and dried it in the oven on the lowest setting. This took about an hour. Then, I packed the dust into size 00 gelcaps.

The morning of my planned journey, I ate a very light breakfast and only a few pieces of watermelon throughout the day (mainly in the morning). That night, I thought I would fall asleep during the journey, so I had a small amount of caffeinated soda, just to keep me awake.

For the Mimosa, I measured out 11 grams and tore the bark into small chunks with a pair of pliers. Very, very easy. Next, I brought 6 ounces of water to a simmer in a small, stainless-steel pot and tossed in the bark. About ten minutes after throwing in the bark, I took the Syrian Rue capsules with a little bit of warm lemon water to make sure they digested fast. Halfway through the cooking, I added the juice of three lemons to the Mimosa brew. After twenty minutes of cooking, I poured out the brew into a small dish with a t-shirt on top to act as a filter.

First taste: “Interesting, it tastes like vomit. Oh well, the taste goes away quick and it’s still better than Morning glory.”

Second taste: “Ooh, it tastes even worse this time.”

Third taste: “Okay, now the taste is hanging around a little more. Maybe I should drink some water after each sip.”

This continued with each sip getting worse and worse. After twenty minutes of slowly drinking the brew, I was down to maybe one tablespoon’s worth of liquid and I just couldn’t finish it. I tossed it down the sink and went into my room to sit on the bed.

The Experience: Before taking anything, I wrote down a few questions that I wanted to have answered. The main one was asking if I could trust people again, after being betrayed by those closest to me. I listened to some soft music for about an hour before I got up to use the bathroom. I stared into the mirror afterward for a few moments before, I swear, my reflection had an expression that I did not make. It scared the hell out of me. “Alright, let’s just relax for a few minutes,” I said to myself, walking back to my room.

The experience is extremely fragmented, but I’ll do my best to separate things out. It must have been about an hour and a half after finishing the brew that it really started. At first, it was just random visuals and random noise. I was singing to myself in a language I had never heard before.

It kicked in very heavy soon after this. I was falling down a hole, body and mind falling together. I was answering questions asked by a voice that I could not hear, but I knew that a female was asking me if I was ready, if I wanted to stay, and other questions that I cannot remember, but I know I answered them all truthfully, even if I wanted to lie.

Things took a dark turn then. I became a vicious, sex-crazed monster, snarling and biting at nothing. Still, I wasn’t afraid. I accepted this and became fully committed to what I was.

No. I am not an animal. I am a beautiful human being. I whispered everything that I loved about myself, my family, and my friends. I realized that I was surrounded by loving people all the time. “I want another human being here. I want to feel them and be next to them.” Yes, I believe I can trust people now.

I became reborn, just a little child amused by everything and looking for someone to care for me. It was not in my own time that I was born, however. It was ancient Greece. I knew that I was a reincarnation of Helios, the sun god. There was a vast pantheon of gods. I had existed forever. Everyone had existed forever. I was everyone and everyone was me. We were all part of the infinite. “Yes,” the voice, my teacher answered. “We’re all one.” She told me that I was to become a shaman, spreading the wisdom of this amazing substance. I was confused, but understood later.

Then I died. The voice told me that I was dead. I had always been dead. Always being born and always dying. “That makes sense. I am dead. Weird,” I said out loud. I was not scared at all. I was okay with being dead. I kept touching my arms, chest, and hair. “What are these things?” I said.

Things seemed to be repeating now; I was in a constant state of being born and dying. Dying and being reborn as the god of the sun.

“I want to listen to music now,” I said to myself. My mp3 player was on the floor beside my bed. I could barely move. No music. I felt a little nauseous, but I knew I wouldn’t throw up. Even if I was going to, I would never be able to stand up and walk to the bathroom.

My arm had turned into a great snake, weaving and darting around in front of me. It bit me several times but I didn’t mind, being dead and everything. Aliens visited me, asking if I wanted to live on another planet. “I never really thought about it before, is it nice there?” They didn’t answer. They left as quickly as they arrived.

I looked up at the clock. Barely two hours had passed. “Impossible, I’ve been doing this for ages.” I just wanted it to end now. It was still enjoyable, but I was getting tired. My body ached, my stomach was churning. I just wanted to sleep and wake up normal again.

I can’t say what time I went to sleep, but I woke up early feeling tired and dehydrated, but otherwise just fine. There is great wisdom in these substances. I will definitely be doing this again.
