Poppy Tea + Wine = Sleep Disorder + Hangover

I've used poppy straw tea several times, made from homegrown blue poppy (P. somniferum). The effects are somewhat heavy and slightly unpleasant during the two first hours, then some calm euphoria occurs, specially when smoking pot in addition. To me, without smoking pot, opiates are boring. The effects last for 6 hours and lead to a heavy sleep. Some sense of calm gradually subsides the day after.

This time, I did something different, which wasnt a good idea...

From the beginning :
T-4 : Hypericum perforatum tea (2 cups made from 1/2 tea spoon of plant)
T-2 : Bacopa monnieri tea (2 cups made from 1/2 tea spoon of plant material)
T : Papaver somniferum tea (4 cups made from 2 tablespoon of ground poppy + a pinch of Bacopa monnieri + a small pinch of saffron + a teaspoon of ground kratom leaves)
T + 3 : 1 glass of red wine (10 cl)
T+3:30 : 1 glass of red wine (10 cl)
T+4 : 1 glass of red wine (10 cl)

I've drunk a light St John's Wort (H. perforatum) tea around 2 PM, because I was feeling sad. St John's Wort works fine as an antidepressant. Around 5 Pm, I've drunk some Bacopa monnieri tea, which is said to potentiate poppy. I dont know if it really works with poppy, but it works with Blue Lotus.

Around 8:30 PM, I've drunk two cups of a tea made from 2 tablespoon of ground poppy straw (mostly heads), with a pinch of Bacopa and a pinch of saffron (which is also said to be an opiate potentiator). I also added a small tea spoon of good Kratom shredded leaves, because Kratom takes effect a lot quicker than poppy. When I take Kratom on its own, I 'm using a lot more than a tea spoon.

Except for the St John's wort taken earlier, all this is what I usually do with poppy

and leads to a quiet and rather heavy sleep six hours later, after a calm and sometimes euphoric evening.

The poppy effects slowly grew stronger during the evening. I thought that I should have used more ground poppy, as euphoria was weak, effects rather heavy, a bit boring with a sense of 'dark' feeling I usually associate with minor doses of tropane alkaloids (like the ones of mandrake or datura). So, 4 hours into the 'trip', I've drunk 3 small glasses of red wine (around 25 / 30 cl total). The effects became heavier, very close to those experienced when mixing alcohol and Blue Lotus. In fact, the whole turned to something close to a Blue Lotus 'trip'. I rarely take Lotus because, even when taken on its own, it has a long lasting hangover.

So, I was very tired and feeling a bit stupid. I did go to bed and fell asleep quickly after. Usually, with poppy tea, I would have slept straight for at least 8 hours, more probably 10 or more. But this time, I awake several times, with a foggy mind and having a hard time to go back to sleep. It happens when I drink significant amount of alcohol containing brewages, at least one bottle of wine (75 cl) and more often with bigger amounts. With alcohol alone, I wake up once, not three or four times like during this night. It never happened with poppy alone before.

So, what was different?
Taking St John's wort 4 hours before? I doubt that it was the problem. Drinking alcohol? Probably that, because alcohol tends to disturb my sleep. Alcohol was somewhat potentiated in its effects and after-effects. After this bad night, I lost all the morning sleeping to eventually wake up with a Blue Lotus-like hangover.

I hate this. Plus my stomach was upset like if I had drunk a lot!

Lesson learnt : mixing poppy tea and alcoholic drinks is not a good idea.

Poppy usually brings a quiet sleep and a sense of relaxation the next day which cannot be called a hangover. But with alcohol, it leads to a bad sleep and an unpleasant hangover. The 'high' itself became a bit heavy and dirty.
