I have taken Ambien and Ambien CR in it's various forms for sleep for about ten years now. I have developed quite a tolerance, so much that my doctor often orders 20-30mg at bedtime.
I confess that I often use smaller doses during the day just to take the edge off, which can still have disturbing amnesia episodes and mood changes.
Generic Zolpidem seems to do nothing to me anymore. Crushing it, dissolving it in soda, higher doses, not much more of an effect.
As a healthcare practitioner I remembered that we give a number of very powerful benzos and opiates in rectal form sometimes when we can't get access to a vein, or if the patient is a child and thrashing. These work quickly due to the massive amount of mucosa in the rectum. Other 'illicit' reports I've read and other research made me wonder if this would help increase the effect of Ambien without raising the dose.
It's currently 1443. Around 1420 I crushed one 10mg zolpidem tablet to a fine powder and mixed it with about 5mL of lukewarm water. With a NEEDLELESS syringe I introduced the solution into my rectum as best as I could manage.
I felt it within five minutes as a warmness, smooth. Ten minutes I got the typical 'what am I doing now' disconnect. Now twenty minutes in I am having a nice warm plateau.
