1. Grind the n. caerulea in a coffee grinder until it is a fine powder.
2. Mix the powder with about 200 milliliters of isopropyl alcohol. Agitate for about an hour.
3. Filter the powder from the alcohol, it should be a nice, dark brown/black/blue color.
4. On a flat sheet, the alcohol is poured out and evaporated.
5. The dried extract is scraped up, then mixed with about 50 milliliters of naphtha. Agitate for about an hour.
6. Filter the undissolved chunks of extract, the naphtha should be a pale blue/green color.
7. On a flat sheet, the naphtha is poured out and evaporated.
8. That extract is scraped up, mixed with a bit of cannabis, and smoked.
I had already smoked some of the less potent extract, but the psychoactive effects had teetered out. The body load, however, was still evident.
I proceeded to smoke the final extract. It was a runny, oily substance that was dripped onto a small amount of cannabis buds. The numbers are far from exact, but an estimate would be about 10 grams n. caerulea concentrated to 500-1000 milligrams of alkaloids.
[0:00] It was smoked through a glass 'gravity bong', a few full hits in the space of just a few minutes. I was sitting up at the time, and within minutes found it impossible to even do that. I laid back and tried to enjoy himself.
[0:10-1:00] To call it psychedelic, even at high doses, is pushing it. It wasn't a particularly pleasant shift of perception. It was dizzied, confused, and hypnotic. A little like having too much to drink. There was spatial distortion and some color enhancement. These effects are short lived, peaking about 20 minutes after inhalation, and, for the most part, dwindled out after an hour. These effects were far more enjoyable with the lesser potent extract. The body load remained.
[0:10-2:00] The aphrodisiac qualities attributed to N. caerulea became very apparent to me. It induced a high level of muscle sensitivity, specifically in the lower torso region. In the less potent extract, this was indistinguishable from the body load itself.

[2:00-3:30] However, with this high dose, I could differentiate the sedated body load from the muscle sensitivity, which was continuing to rise. At first it was equatable with chills associated with waves of euphoria from opiates or amphetamines, except there was zero euphoria.
About 2 hours after inhalation, a mild headache developed, and the sedated body load was still in effect. There was no discernible raising or lowering of heart rate. The muscle sensitivity became more and more equatable with chills associated with a fever.
It was getting late and I decided to try and sleep. The heavy body load wouldn't allow for much else.
[3:30-4:20] The heat in the house was up full blast, 90 degrees F. I was wearing a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and was completely huddled under 3 blankets. Yet I shivered uncontrollably. Under normal conditions, I would have been unbearably hot. But I did not sweat at all. The muscle sensitivity was now an ache equatable to a high fever. With me shivering rather violently now, it became impossible to notice a body load.
Drifting in and out of an uncomfortable sleep, about 4 hours after inhalation, I awoke suddenly. I left my bed and ran to the bathroom. I noticed on the way that I could feel how hot my home was, and was no more or less comfortable than when I was in bed. Leaving my warm blankets did not change the level of muscle sensitivity or shivering, despite my fear that it would be really, really cold.
[4:30-4:45] I vomited into the toilet. It was a simple purge, certainly not enjoyable, but I've had worse. I felt a bit better, but still had a mild headache and shivering chills from the muscle sensitivity. I returned to bed and fell asleep rather quickly.
[6:30] I awoke sweating profusely. I took off my sweatshirt, kicked off the blankets and turned the heat down. The headache had disappeared, and my muscles felt normal again. I went back to sleep again for a few more hours.
I obviously overdid it. Too much of smoked n. caerulea alkaloids has an extremely unpleasant effect. Lower doses have some recreational value, but to me, it's just not that fun. It entirely lacks in either euphoria or psychedelia.
The plant material has an enjoyable smoke and a very mild high, and I plan on sticking to that for recreational purposes.
However for its aphrodisiac effect, this is certainly a potent substance. The muscle sensitivity was enjoyable in lower doses.
Heightening sexual sensitivity is about the only application for this extract, but dosing must be managed very carefully.
