When I read that Lyrica was a Schd 5 drug I almost fell out of my chair. I am about to fall out anyhow right now from my dose of Lyrica.

I am a 33 y/o female, who has taken most drugs in the opiate category, primarily after being hit by a drunk driver. I’ve been an athlete all my life, and opiates were the only thing that allowed me to continue athletics. They are however, very addicting and I of course became addicted--even though I swore for a long time I was not. I have run short many times and have either gone through full withdrawal, lowering doses too fast, or asking close friends or family for anything they had laying around. It became pretty pathetic, and I needed my life back. I went to my pain doctor and asked for help. That he did and he gave me some Lyrica.

I normally take (over the course of 1 day) 40 mg Oxycontin, 5 7.5mg Norcos, Xanax 2-4 mg, Adderall 15 mg. I know, quite the lineup. I was only taking opiates for quite some time, and they made me tired, and someone told me about Adderall. That gave me the jitters and I was then given Xanax. I had a very liberal doctor.
I had a very liberal doctor.
When I go to the ER or anything and I tell them what I am on, the staff just stare at me. Anyhow, my doctor said Lyrica would likely help with my nerve pain too, and I was given a sample bottle of 50 mg pills in his office to take home. I was told to take it at night because then I wouldn’t feel all the side effects. So I decided to take it first thing the next morning with all my other stuff. I didn’t do a lot of research, because I figured if he had sample bottles it couldn’t be anything good. I was wrong.

I took 20 mg Oxycontin, 1 7.5 mg Norco, .25 Xanax (I’m weaning-yay!), Adderall (5 mg), & 50 mg Lyrica. At around 7:30am on an empty stomach. I felt my normal hit of everything about 20 minutes after oral ingestion, and about 10 minutes after that I felt a whole new feeling. I was actually answering my emails when it hit me. Words started flowing, I felt pleasant-although a different euphoria than opiates. Physically I didn’t feel very different, except a feeling somewhat similar to smoking pot--when I feel like I am so heavy I cannot move, and that if I lay down I am sort of stuck to whatever I am sitting/laying on.

It felt very much like a butter to its bread…a very nice enhancer. I felt very high. But not so high than I could not function, and no one around me seemed to notice anything different. Time seemed to pass smoothly, although I didn’t pay attention like I normally do, and I felt very carefree. I also wanted to talk more, and I didn’t notice my shortage of benzo’s, which is great because I am trying to wean off them, and this seems to be a perfect temporary replacement.

I went to the park with my family, and walked around with my kids, felt cheerful, pain-free, and fine...although still quite high. It lasted a long, long time. We were at the park for almost three hours and that feeling lasted the whole time. By then I had taken 5 minutes to look up “Lyrica effects” on Google from my phone, and I had a few of them. I became extremely hungry about 5 hours after taking my lineup. I ate junk food from McDonalds that I normally don’t eat, hence the reported weight gain people seem to have. I understood why. I could have kept on eating but I made myself stop. I even ate in the car which I never do. I couldn’t wait. This seemed to take down the high a notch, which I was ready for at this point.

I do not want to have this drug at my full access. I’m surprised it is not more carefully controlled. I certainly felt its effects, though maybe it subsides for some people after some time. This has seemed to help me with getting off Xanax, and I am only taking Lyrica for about another day or so, because I do not want to be on it. I read coming off Lyrica is difficult…
