Ok, so I've been a fairly active opiate user for about 14 years now. For the last five years or so, I've been wanting to quit, simply because it's ruining my life. I have tried everything under the sun (medicinally) to deal with the worst parts of withdrawal, which are: stomach cramps, extreme diarrhea, insomnia, general malaise, etc. So far, Suboxone has worked the best, but I still felt like I was getting high, which means I knew exactly where I would end up if I kept using it. Plus, Suboxone treatment just isn't in my budget. Weaning doesn't work either for someone like me, as I can talk myself out of anything.

I came across numerous posts about using Loperamide (Immodium) to get high. I did some research and found out that it supposedly doesn't cross the blood brain barrier. I wasn't interested in getting high anymore, but without a suitable amount of detox time, I was destined to get high again.

So, about two weeks ago, I decided to try a medium/large dose of loperamide (40 mg, or twenty tablets) to see how it would affect me. After day one, I knocked it down to 15 tablets per day. Take into consideration that my last opiate dose, during this time, was over 24 hours prior to taking the loperamide. Also, I was only taking an equivalent of about 30-40 mgs of oxy a day. I'm not sure how this would work for those using larger opiate doses per day.

Almost all of my symptoms have abated. I don't have the entirety of my natural energy back yet, and I'm still a bit foggy in the mind (which I expected). It'll take some time for my brain to essentially 'reboot'. However, there are no stomach problems at all. I haven't had to run to the restroom once. I have no problem sleeping, and can sleep past eight hours if I choose to (which would've been impossible going cold turkey). No cold sweats or hot flashes. Nothing.

If I had to compare what this experience is like, it would be like taking 8 mg of Suboxone daily, without the 'high'.

However, I 'hungered' for that Suboxone treatment every day I was on it. There isn't any 'hunger' for loperamide, interestingly enough.

As a side note, I do have a little trouble with constipation (not bad though). Also, I understand that there can be withdrawal symptoms from long term usage of loperamide as well. However, I can wean myself from loperamide when ready. I imagine it would be no different than 'weaning' myself off of tylenol, as there is no high related to this medication.

Anyway, this has worked so well, I decided to help a friend. She has been on a slightly smaller regimen, but is experiencing the same thing I am.

We're keeping our fingers crossed..
