On January 18th, Erowid joined the Internet protest of proposed U.S.
SOPA/PIPA legislation by blacking out the site for a full day. These
laws would allow blocking and blacklisting of entire websites that
have been accused of copyright violation: an attempt to bypass the
1st Amendment with a legal loophole. Thanks to everyone for your
patience and support while Erowid was down for this important protest.
Unfortunately, following the death of our largest funder a few months
ago, we need to increase the amount of fundraising we do until we can
raise an additional $60,000 in pledges for 2012. If you know donors
or foundations that support the type of work Erowid does, please
let us know. Erowid Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is in deep need of
new major contribution sources. Also, if you or someone you know
works for a corporation with a charitable giving plan, many such
companies match donations made to nonprofits, doubling any money
contributed.
We need your help finding new sources of non-advertising funding,
especially in the $5,000-$50,000 per year range. Please bear with us
as we search out these crucial new funders over the next few months.
