In The Flesh: Seventy-five years ago (Jul 18, 1937), celebrated American author and psychoactive drug enthusiast Hunter S. Thompson was born.

In The News: Forty-three years ago (1969), hippies were pictured on a LIFE magazine cover that announced: "The Youth Communes--New Way of Living Confronts the U.S.".

In The Law: Ten years ago (2002), the DEA declared its intent to emergency schedule 2C-T-7, BZP, and TFMPP. Seven years ago (2005), a British ban on psilocybin-containing mushrooms took effect.

An examination of published and unpublished accounts of deaths linked to the recreational use of this dissociative anesthetic reveals incidents in four categories: pharmacological fatalities, behavioral fatalities, suicides, and homicides.
The Johns Hopkins research into the effects of psilocybin on normal adults hints at support for the idea that a dose around 20 mg/70 kg can facilitate a meaningful and/or mystical-type experience, and that preceding higher doses with lower doses could be beneficial.

For her PhD dissertation, Alicia Danforth is collecting surveys and personal accounts from autistic/Aspergian adults (age 21+) who've had experiences with MDMA (ecstasy). Those who fit the criteria are encouraged to visit her web site before the end of July.

Graduate student Alan Davis is exploring the subjective experience of craving for ecstasy and other aspects of people's ecstasy experiences. To participate in this survey, you must be 18-65 years old, have used ecstasy at least 30 times over your lifetime, and at least every other week for the past six months.
