We're excited to be working with Tim Scully, former LSD chemist
known for his involvement in the legendary Orange Sunshine branded
LSD tablets in the 1960s, helping shepherd his meticulously detailed
and documented Underground LSD Manufacturing History Project.

In the first week of October 1995, earth and Fire launched the
Erowid.org website. We had no idea that we'd gotten ourselves into a
thirty year project (and career) but are very happy with all that
our teams and volunteers have accomplished!
What good are 200,000 PDFs if you don't know what they are? With
DrugsData on pause, Erowid staff have shifted energy toward archiving,
digital indexing and metadata: over 90,000 Shulgin files now have
document type, date, author, title, and privacy status recorded. An
essential part of this process is identifying privacy concerns.
Erowid is often mentioned in articles and books. Mentions may include
positive or critical reviews, as well as citations of Erowid content.

Futurism (Jun 2025)
"In a 2024 anecdote shared on the user-submitted drug encyclopedia
site Erowid [...] head shop tianeptine induced a 'very dirty opiate
high'."
-
Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (Dec 2024)
"An analysis from Erowid Center's anonymous drug-testing program,
DrugsData.org, shows that of the 68 samples submitted between 2016
& 2024 under labels 'pink cocaine', 'tusi', or '2C-B', 94% contained
ketamine (64 samples) and 81% contained MDMA (52 samples)."

Newsbreak (Sep 2025)
"Because nutmeg is cheap, legal, and familiar, it has occasionally
been used (mostly by thrill-seekers or misguided experimenters) as
a 'legal high.' But the margin between 'trip' and 'hospitalization'
is razor-thin."

Here we present an observational study with narrative self-report
texts, leveraging the massive scale of the Erowid experience report
dataset. [...] We observed that the proportion of sentences
describing visual effects varies significantly and consistently
across substances, even within the group of psychedelics.

Here we present a qualitative analysis of the self-reported ‘come-up’
or onset phase, and ‘come-down’ or falling phase, of the psychedelic
experience. Focusing on psilocybin or psilocybin-containing mushroom
experience reports published on Erowid.org.

We've heard from and about many people who've been offered a material
they were *told* is a natural plant extract (from sassafrass) with
effects equivalent to MDA or MDMA.

"I'm physically still only slightly impaired but mentally it begins
to feel like I'm loosing the grip on reality. It feels strange as I
am still very clear headed. The voice in my head which is usually the
voice of my thoughts suddenly goes quiet..."

"T+1:10. Still nothing, I would say this experiment was a failure.
I am going to take some kratom leaf on top of the boofed 7-OH. I am
taking 4.5 g of kratom leaf in capsules now."
-
"I decided to redose with the same dose I started with, plus some
harmaline. This time, things started to happen pretty quickly though
the true peak still took a little while to fully come on and it was
still different from the first night."
