This book is based on talks given by Ram Dass at the Menninger Foundation, Topeka, Kansas, in 1970; and at Spring Grove Hospital in Spring Grove, Maryland, in 1972. The text grew out of the interaction between Ram Dass and the spiritual seekers in attendance.

The result of this unique exchange is a useful guide for understanding the nature of consciousness -- useful to those interested in spiritual matters as well as those formally trained in psychology. It is also a celebration of the "dance of life," which is in the words of Ram Dass, "the only dance there is."

"Ram Dass is best known for his transformation from Harvard psychology professor to psychedelic mind explorer to spiritual guide and friend . . . What makes this man special is not only that he is a consummate storyteller, but that he is truly a seeker before he is a teacher, a peer who is willing to share his mistakes and vulnerabilities publicly and without censorship and to invite people to laugh with him in his foibles."
-- Catherine Ingram, author of In the Footsteps of Gandhi: Conversations with Spiritual Social Activists

Ram Dass's positive outlook is a lumoinous beacon for other people striving to create a peaceful, healthy planet . . . His bestselling books have bridged the gap between Western culture and Eastern religion . . . Ram Dass is evidence that the path of inner development can be in harmony with an action-oriented life . . .
-- Crosswinds

Ram Dass is a commanding speaker, with stranger-than-fiction tales of real life. He has the knack of dealing with compassion and kindness without making them seem unctuous or fatuous.
