ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S) / EDITOR(S) #
Darryl S. Inaba, Pharm.D., is Director of the Drug Rehabilitation and Aftercare Program of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics and an Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacology at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco. Dr Inaba has worked with the Haight-Ashbury Clinic since its inception in 1967 and has supervised the outpatient treatment of over 85,000 clients of whom 93% are self-referred.

Due to the rapidly changing abusable drug trends, Dr. Inaba and his staff have developed new treatment and prevention strategies. Many of these programs were created to meet under served populations. These programs include the Glide Memorial Church African American Extended Family Recovery Center, and the Moving Addicted Mothers Ahead (MAMA) Program.

Dr. Inaba has also served on numerous boards and commissions. In 1974, he gave testimony to the U.S. Senate and predicted the onset of a cocaine epidemic. As Director of the Haight-Ashbury Training and Education Project, he gives frequent drug education lectures and seminars around the country. Dr. Inaba is also the senior advisor for CNS Productions, Inc. which has produced numerous drug education videos, including the Haight-Ashbury Training Series which addresses both professional staff training and patient education needs.

In 1993, Dr. Inaba was honored by the California Society of Addiction Medicine for outstanding achievement in chemical dependency treatment. He has also been honored by both Houses of the California State Legislature for his work in addiction treatment and was awarded a commendation by the American Pharmaceutical Association for excellence in 1995.
