Occurs from 12 degree S. latitude to 27 degrees S. latitude in Argentina and Brazil.

Anadenanthera colubrina var. colubrina and var. cebil overlap in range.
May be distinguished from var. Cebil:
var. Colubrina is a shorter tree.
The main leaf rachis has a deeper ventral channel.
Pinnae pairs may be fewer but are longer in var. colubrina. Pinnae become noticeably shorter towards tip.
Leaflets are fewer, longer, often more linear and nitidulous above. Only the mid-vein is prominent.
