INITIATIVE MEASURE NO. 60
SHORT TITLE
"Medical Use of Marijuana Initiative of 1998"
SUMMARY STATEMENT
This Initiative permits the medical use of marijuana by patients suffering
from certain debilitating conditions including cancer, glaucoma and AIDS.
This Initiative:

Permits eligible patients to possess, use and cultivate marijuana solely
for medical purposes, without criminal penalty;

Requires approval by a licensed physician;

Authorizes the Director of the Department of Public Health to approve or
deny eligible conditions;

Establishes restrictions with respect to authorized medical use of marijuana;

Limits the liability of private insurance providers to pay for medical
marijuana;

Requires law enforcement officials to return property and drug paraphernalia
seized in medical marijuana arrests under certain circumstances.
