“Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion and 'Designer Drugs' (ecstasy)”.
Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolism. 2000;13:437-8.
Abstract
The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) appears in the course of a variety of pathologies. However, few reports have been published on the hydroelectrolytic disorders associated with taking 3,4-methylenedyoxymethamphetamine (MDMA) or 'ecstasy', a powerful amphetamine derivative. This compound is believed to cause several toxic effects, including hyperthermia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, rabdomyolysis, acute kidney failure, hepatic toxicity, cerebral infarction and psychiatric alterations. We have found only one clinical patient report relating MDMA intoake with SIADH. We present an 18 year-old woman patient with SIADH after MDMA consumption.
