Abstract
18 normal subjects made drawing of human figures under control conditions and at the height of the reaction to 72 mcg LSD orally. A reliable and accurate differentiation could be made between the figures drawn under the influence of LSD and those drawn under control conditions. Under the influence of LSD there was less attention to detail, a greater degree of distortion and more disturbed line quality; in addition the figures tended to be larger. . These findings are considered to support the body image hypothesis that human figure drawings are basically representations of the subject's body image. Other possible explanations of the findings are mentioned.
