Abstract
Double-blind study to determine whether pretreatment with BOL-148 would attenuate the LSD reaciton. The drugs were given orally. . Fifteen subjects were given simultaneously 2 or 4 mg. BOL-148 plus 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 mcg/kg LSD. BOL-148 did not reduce the autonomic response (increase of blood pressure, mydriasis) and the psychic response to LSD. . Eight subjects were given 1 mg. BOL-148 t.i.d. for 2 days prior to 1 mcg/kg LSD. A tendency to reduce the response was observed but the difference was not statistically significant. . Ten subjects were treated with 1 mg. BOL-148 t.i.d. for 5 days prior to the administration of 1 mcg/kg LSD. A significant attenuation in all aspects of the LSD reactions was apparent. . The same degree of tolerance to LSD can be produced by pretreatment with 0.5-1.0 mg. LAE-32 daily for 7 days. . The results are due to the development of cross tolerance rather than to competitive inhibition.
